fired up my fates for the first time in a while and the available catalog in maiden appears empy, all he installed scripts from before appear to be there and working , but i cant get new ones. Is there a way to force an update of the catalog?

There is a load button next to the community listing. Looks like two arrows in a circle. Click that and it’ll show the list again.

heres a screenshot

Well look at that! Is there a chance that your FATES is behind on some essential updates? That’s kinda the only thing I can suggest… Sorry, thought I might be of some help but I guess I have been of little.

i appreciate the help nontheless  it seems up to date , but im downloading the image to do a fresh install later today if needed

What version number is showing on the SELECT menu screen (when you press K2 - to show stats, etc)?

under the menu is shows 200328

heads up to @okyeron et al, this likely indicates that the softcut submodule has not been cloned (with git submodule update --init --recursive or similar)

Yup. On it. Fixed up the full install instructions earlier tonight.

Ok probably it’s not old software. Might try force-clearing your bowser cache.

You could also remove the version.txt from ~/ and then re-run the SYSTEM>UPDATE instead of reflashing the whole setup.

I keep dreaming of a eurorack version of fates. Looking similar to a teletype.
I think it would be amazing in a system of any size.
I really hope you get a chance to revisit this idea.
Even if the audio i/o were converted to euro levels and keep the cv i/o with crow?
Heres a silly mock up i made in a few mins. hehe. Obviously not the best design but you get the idea!

Redesign the shield sources and go to town :grinning:

Fun idea! Keep in mind that you’re probably going to want it to be externally powered. That pi at its heart is hungry, very hungry.

Enough people begin modding and molding the norns and the next thing you’ll know it’ll grow CV ports, becoming aleph 2.0

Edit; guess crow is essentially that… :upside_down_face:

Thanks for all the tips. After 6h of downloading I recieved the disk-image and was able to install the Fates. Now I need to learn Orca :stuck_out_tongue:

Wish I had the skills to do so. Id be so keen to make this for the community!

this fixed it thanks

thinking about taking the plunge on a battery and read this thread when folks were discussing it. looks like 3A is the magic number; is it pretty safe to say the mAH rating is just more=better? i see pi4 supplies at 5000mAH but i would be at minimum 10000mAH just based on cost. is there a finicky-ness beyond that anyone has experienced, for example “it just doesn’t like that one battery for some reason”?

There are two issues I’ve come across when wanting to add battery (if you crack this nut, please for the love of all that is holy hook me up with your system!) are this;

  1. charging/power through ore installed FATES input. Basically, I want to be able to power/charge through the back port. Once the battery is full, basically be fully from the USBC port in the back.

  2. the need or necessity of a power switch or button. This becomes complicated on some cases (such as an aluminum one like mine) or other styles of enclosures).

If you can crack those two nuts, we’ll be cooking for sure.

@kasselvania, sorry, i should have been clear, while those two things surmounted would be super sweet, i am just trying to power from a usb battery pack which looks like some people here have done. but i don’t want to support amazon so just trying to nail down some specs so i can shop other options.

Ah! Oh well! If you want you can buy directly from Anker, and cut out the amazon middle man. Depending on you available funds, I’d always go for the higher capacity. It just needs to put out 3A. The high capacity banks like what I’m going to link to have run a norns with a grid for hours straight

Look at Anker.com

Some are available directly through them, not amazon. Although, I’ll never claim a company like Anker to be much better than amazon. Haha
