If your device was functioning normally and this happened after installing or changing scripts - then the most likely cause is a duplicate engine. See the norns documentation for details: https://monome.org/docs/norns/help/#error-messages

See also the docs for maiden on using the REPL to get error messages

If you’ve just built your device and getting supercollider fail every time, then you may have soldering problems around the DAC and it may not be initializing properly.

thank you I will look into those

Hi!

I have 4 fates…

Hi everyone
I was wondering if it was possible to use the make noise maths as an attenuator and to route the FATES’s outs and then record into the ER-301 and therefore avoid mixing line signals with modular signals. What do you use to record within a modular environment?

Thanks

Fates has a lower signal level than Eurorack so you’d need an amplifier rather than an attenuator.

yes I also have an amplifier. I use MI Ears, however my doubt remains to mix line signals with modular signals…
for example, other signals from the modular should enter the ER-301 mixer IN. in this way I would mix the levels and I think it is risky for the FATES entrances

thanks

Hi there!

Could fates be used as a audiointerface over USB? Is there a script for this or could this be programmed?

Cheers

I don’t really know.

To clarify - You want to use the fates DAC as a sound card for another device over USB?

You might do some google searches on using a Raspi audio interface this way.

Yes, using the DAC as an USB interface. I will do some research and report back. Thanks.

(back at my computer now…) I think this will never work because of the Pi being a USB host.

I think you’d need some other solution - like maybe a Teensy 3.2 or 4 with audio board (possible reference)

Ah, okay. Thanks.

But I have a different solution for my setup now. I like to have a way to use hardware synth (Eurorack manly) with Endless. For this I need some Midi clock signal to Endless. Now I use the existing audio interface for line in to my iPad and use Fates and Link for clock sync as Endless has Link build in and Fates too. And I can put Fates in between my Eurorack and the audio interface to manipulate the sound.

Now that there won’t be anymore PCBs available, any chance of having the gerber files available so we could get our own PCBs made? I sadly found out too late about the fates, and would love to have a PCB.

Unfortunately the project is not going to be publicly released or open sourced.

The monome shield is open source and is fully supported by monome. That’s the DIY norns solution from here on out.

that’s too bad because the form factor of Fates with all cables on a single side is tidier.
It doesn’t need to be a norns clone to be useful as a compact / no-distracting-browser computer instrument. I wish i ordered a second PCB since i got all other parts in double.
But i don’t want to sound entitled and respect your decision which i guess might not be lightly made.

Thanks for clearing that up! Love everything you do for the community by the way!

Hello there! Hope this is right place to post about it, I have a very simple question:
I have a Fates with latest Norns firmware installed, perfectly working.
Is it possible to set up a mono recording? If I plug only the L input, all recorded material is panned on the left side.
Thank you

This is kind of baked into norns. From Norns Docs

“ REC writes 48khz stereo WAV.”

Kind of how Tape works in norns, there is no option for mono recordings. I don’t really have any guidance on how to change it either.

thank you, that’s it. I’ve found a really simple solution converting the monitor from stereo to mono: losing the panorama but great for this momentary need

This was probably asked before, but searching didn’t yield results.

What kind of soft/travel bag are you using for Fates?
