Got it working! Think I was being to impatient when it was expanding the disk.

Thanks all for your help and patience

I don’t actually know why it does this. I did a bunch of research and came up short in the past… but I’ll go read that article now just in case.

For everyone else - please remember to read ALL of the instructions.

@Papercutnoise once you have the disk expanded you should be able to run the on-device SYSTEM>UPDATE now without problem.

Yeah, System>Update ran without a hitch.

Thanks again everyone! Was getting worried there for a bit :joy:

Which kind of cables are y‘all using to run audio in and out of Fates?
Mono mini jacks are rather uncommon outside of Eurorack patch cables.

I now use 3.5mm stereo jack to mono plug adapters and hope that they are of sufficient quality.
I saw others use more high-grade looking cables, but couldn’t find anything in 3.5mm.

i found the Hosa adapters to be one of, if not the only, game in town. they seem fine though.

Those looks good to me. I use a similar adapter, but male to male instead.

I don’t really believe in “high-grade” cables so not much I can suggest there

I finally put my Fates together and the friend who gave me the PCB as a gift has encouraged me to post this image of it, resplendent in a walnut version of the case from the repo. Easily the prettiest thing I’ve DIYed.

Fourth encoder is incoming. But a question: what knobs would you suggest to go with this case? I’d been considering the grey Sifam from Thonk but they’re sold out.

Elegant and academic feel with that case… Gorgeous!

I could really use some of these! Got a link handy? Right now I’m using some long patch cables to hook it up to my modular.

How’re you boosting and stepping down volume? A dedicated module?

Not super happy with this solution, but using a Pico DSP with attenuated input to split the signal to stereo from mono. It would be nice to just use the stereo headphones out from my output module instead and split it using a cable instead.

My current choices are to route my norns through a Komolete Audio 6 Mk2 (which I’m frankly not in love with) and then out of my ES-8, or to combine the signals in to the Intellijel input 1U module I have. Both aren’t exactly my preferred choices. So I understand your frustration.

That’s good civilization

I’m going to make another 2x mono male to 1x Stereo female soon. Would anyone be interested if I did a quick guide/tutorial?

sifam small skirted fit perfectly and look great. You could get the black ones from Thonk and put grey caps on them.I like the feel of those better than the taller Rogan encoder knob.

I like this idea. Thank you. As it happens someone else suggested exactly the same so that’s enough consensus for me.

I’d be down for that. Tutorials are always welcome in this world.

I recommend buying a 3.5mm stereo to mono RCA cable, and replacing the RCAs with mono 3.5 mm plugs. Those things fill massive bins at thrift stores.

Choices are quite limited, if you want to go with encoder knobs, rather than ones with pointers (I find pointers on encoders annoying, since the pointer has no meaning, for an endless encoder).

I went with these “Rogan-style” knobs from Modularaddict
https://modularaddict.com/pt2d-knob
(I think recommended by someone on this forum, actually).

They look quite nice, but I’d struggle to truly recommend them myself, as they of quite poor quality, I’m afraid, unlike the real deal, genuine Rogan parts.

Modularaddict also has these which are nice (or should have if they ever come back in stock):

I think they’re similar to the Sifams.
