Can you get to the menu on Fates?
If you can @okyeron has recommended updating it via LAN

At the moment I do not get anything on Fates’ screen

Could you take a picture so we can see what’s going on? How are your solder joints on your screen? Do you think they could need reflowed?

img.img (1.7 MB)

IMG_7916.img (1.2 MB) IMG_9696.img (1.4 MB) Sure.

Am I supposed to be able to use the main Fates menu even before to expand the disk image?

You should do yes. I’m just stuck at moment as my buttons are wrong. I’d give your board a reflow and also reflash your disk. Do you have the right image for 3 pi b+ or 4?

Yes, the image is the correct one. I will try to reflow everything… wish me luck and thanks for your help!

I checked the voltages and by setting the multimeter on 200V~ I get 10 on 5V and 6.3 on the 3.3V. I guess that is fine?

I do not have any hdmi monitor at the moment, is there any other way to check it? Did I possibly break the display? Is there anything I can do to check that?

Also, I am using a powerbank to power it (it should output 5V at 4A) could that be the problem?

Thanks

That does not sound right at all (but perhaps I’m misunderstanding something about how your meter works)

I am not sure either, I am not an experienced builder. I just guessed that by being the values double by setting the meter to 200 it could be fine…

Wrong setting. Use the V with dashed lines next to it, set to 2

By doing so I get .001 if I put the black pin into GND and the red into 5V and .004 in the 3.3v

You could try if the switches work if you take them out and rotate them 90 degrees and try again.
Just try it with one switch. And you probably don’t even need to solder it in to try it out. Just insert it in the holes.

cross-posting here, i hope that’s OK - but i actually did paid work with the Fates and DIY Grid, if anyone doubted it, you can believe it’s a professional music-making tool

Quick update:

I reflowed the board and now, if I plug the power bank in and check the voltage with the 200V (dashed lines) I get the correct voltage…

I am starting to think that the problem could be the screen

Is there any other way to check if the screen is broken apart from ordering a new one? I have been really careful with it and I am sure I unlikely broke it.

Edit: Some more picture of the board after reflow.

.

wow, what happened to your codec :open_mouth:

thanks, did it with hdmi and keyboard and ssh worked also afterwards

Oh it was just some flux, I know it looks like I hit it with the iron, but it is actually fine

Update:

  • I reflowed everything different times
  • I tried two screens
  • I tried two sd cards (samsung evo plus 32 gb is the faster of the two)
  • I tried two different pi4b 2gb
  • I cleaned the board (I know it was diiiirtyyyy)
  • I flashed the img uncountable times
  • all the V are fine everywhere and there’s continuity where there shoud be, no shorts.

Now: The ACT led on the pi flashes 4 time fast, 4 time slow and then takes a break. Is that the normal behaviour?

New Norns Update = Fates update soon?

Soonish. (when i have time)

Some of these changes are already on fates from the update I made a couple weeks ago.

No - that’s probably an error. From that chart, that pattern means Unsupported board type - but no idea what that means just yet.

Oh wait - is your pi4 an 8GB model? - if so it’s not going to work with the existing kernel.
