mk2. its definitely still lower than most, but hasn’t been a big issue for me

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but I couldn’t find any other thread about filters…

Are there any filters (in any format or platform, hardware or software, although modular would be particularly interesting for obvious reasons) which open up the resonance feedback loop for external processing in the same way some delays and reverbs do? Is that even an idea which makes any sense at all?

in some sense all of the modular ones do: patch the output through whatever you’d like and then feed it back into the input with a mixer or something. Three Sisters is nice for this because of the All input and ability to cross-patch outputs and inputs

I’ve been loving my Metasonix RK4 since the day I got it and the new RK6 is just as lovely but not as aggressive. Despite their reputation, I find Metasonix modules capable of some truly sweet and organic sounds in addition to the mayhem they are known for which is great as well for certain pieces.

One thing to point out is some filters night work better with inverted feedback. Of course if you put anything else in the feedback loop, all bets may be off

This likely unhelpful, but I’ve considered modifying the Thomas White RLPG to tap the resonance loop. It can be accessed through JP1A and JP1B.

I’ve been particularly excited about the SSF Dipole Filter for a long time as it seems like such a unique and powerful sound design tool. With all the talk about stereo filters right now, I figured it would be of interest to those into eurorack on this forum, especially for those of you in the DC DMV area or nearby, that Chuck Levin’s in Wheaton, MD will be hosting a first look with Andrew from SSF on Saturday 3/16 at the store.

I’ll also be performing a patch with the module as Blacklodge with my vocalist/flautist collaborator em.g to kick off the event before Andrew breaks down the module. The event will be filmed and should be available online to watch too. If you’ve got any specific questions let me know, and I’ll relay them to Andrew.

The Sherman Filterbank 2 as a whole, is a psychoacoustic kind of effect since it achieves very present or may say physical resonances that cut through space, it’s aggressive yet very subtle.

humble vote for the WMD/SSF MMF.
liking the small width.
and beyond the obvious filter stuff, it had escaped me that a fine VCO lives inside it =]
gonna try some FM with it next.

My gear lives a turblent life driven by fear. I haven’t had the WMD/SSF MMF racked for a bit, but it’s a survivor. I can’t convince myself to part with it yet. It’s a compact, solid filter. Not my favorite, but of undeniable worth.

Yea, everyone’s order of qualities differs, right? I spent maybe more than a year without even having a filter module, occasionally using the Softpop’s which is a bit gnarly. On some days I prefer less opinionated kit without tons of character (looks at MakeNoise modules), and I’m fussy about hp. But it sparks joy =] A keeper.

Does anyone have any experiences with the nano modules font?
I was wondering if it sounds similar to Ripples/has a roland-ish sound.

@DivKid covered it a bit before Superbooth:

any good recs for max/pd filters (probably as externals) ?

I remember seeing some VST company had their hardware modeled filters available as max externals but literally I forget which

definitely curious about this bc the analog-esque filters in max always left something to be desired.

Could be the surreal machines ladder and sallen key filters? Both nice. I think there is gen~ and external versions. Not sure if they made it to pd…

I have to say Eternal Spring Filter by Snazzy FX has really grown on me. It is a simple filter, no multi-mode or anything, just low pass and only has cv control over cutoff, but it sounds so nice. And with help of the drive it can really shape up sound. With bass sounds especially it goes so well from dark and muted to punchy and aggressive, and can add lovely chaos to leads. I’ve built my rack mainly with “functionality first-principle”, but this one is a keeper purely because of it’s sound.

yes !! ty for triggering my memory. looks like they’re available free in the package manager

heckkkk the sallen key sounds rlly good actually - similar to 3sis to my ears (+ 12/24dB & variable drive !) looks like it’s free to distribute in patches as well ?

here’s bandpass w/ some choice input & modulation

(beware of peaky-ness)

Interesting, as I’ve used that filter a lot and really think it has something… It’s almost my goto in max these days.
