hi all,

I’m looking for an alternative for Syntronik i.e. what are some of the best synth vst’s based on analog synth samples?

UVI and Native Instruments have large libraries of sampled synths.

As @jasonw22 notes, there are many options from those two companies. UVI’s Vintage Vault 3 has probably all the synth samples you’d ever need. If you want to start smaller, NI’s Analog Dreams is a fun and affordable Kontakt instrument. You might also want to check out the everything bundle from Samples from Mars, which currently has a big discount.

I’m very excited about this, Tal’s juno plugin is one of my favorites. This looks amazing and is less than $70 with a launch discount:

TAL’s offering is, in general, incredible. TAL Sampler is probably a must and one of the most interesting and faithfully replicated older sampler(s there are so many of them!) recreation. And yes the Juno is probably the best emulation of it.

Actually CDM just wrote an article about the controller created for the Juno https://cdm.link/2020/12/boutique-roland-juno-hardware-recreation-meant-to-work-only-with-a-plug-in/

And there’s a similar one coming for the Jupiter 8.

Anyway definitely a +1 for TAL software, they deserve more credit.

i just took the plunge on T-A-L Sampler because of the microtonality and the soundfount loader
it;s pretty amazing

Ah nice, I didn’t know there was a new version of that controller. Killer stuff.

Another reason TAL is awesome: just drop the DLL in your plugins folder, that’s it. No installer, always appreciated.

Between their Juno, this JP, and the freely available PG-8X, my Roland needs are pretty much covered.

i like these among other airwindows stuff, sound great over synths:
airwindows: chrome-oxide-vst
airwindows: tape-redux

Used to own the hardware. Absolutely love the VST for treating anemic kicks and weak basses.

I agree. I use the RedDI a lot. I use Kush Audio Omega series a lot. Saturation has been a key in getting perceived loudness in tracks, texture, grit. I highly suggest Kush Audio Omega series. They sound amazing.

Wavesfactory Trackspacer is an essential side chain tool (isn’t your regular pumper)

Favorite synths - U-HE Diva, Brainworx Oberheim

Brainworx SSL G 4k channel strip, Brainworkx N channel strip for mixing.

I tried it, but something about the UI just does not work with my eyes – I think just some color/brightness tweaks to the skin might help a lot.

I’m pretty well addicted to LuSH-101 though, for software virtual analog

I forgot. The SPL Iron mastering compressor by Brainworx. Very Very nice.

Interesting, did you embiggen the interface?

Dark interfaces are hit or miss, I have Massive X which has a dark theme and it doesn’t work for me. (Thankfully they have a light one, too.)

All of Massive X’s alternate themes are quite a huge disappointmenet, none of them work, neither the flat UI version or the dark themes.

generate and pendulate are just amazing sounding
also Vital by Matt Tytel is super cool and wonderful sounding

It’s early after release, and bugs are still being ironed out, but I’d say Endlesss Studio is looking like a keeper for me. I had used the iOS app before, so for the most part it’s a known quantity for me. The main hurdle with the iOS app for me was getting sound into it from my computer. Having to deal with multiple audio interfaces is enough of a hurdle for my current music making habits that I just wouldn’t do it regularly. Having it as an AU/VST plugin brings it straight into my music playgrounds, which makes jamming on Endlesss a little bit every day a realistic thing for me. Time will tell but it’s looking like exactly what my music making needed right now.

Audio things granular reverb is free until December 31st…
Sounds like an interesting tool in the demo video.

Plugin Alliance has big sales once again, I subscribed to Mix & Master bundle a while back and there is a ton of stuff I haven’t even tried yet, but the overall quality seems excellent throughout. The bundles are pretty good value, and you get kind of cash-back voucher per year, so combined with the big yearly sales it can get you quite far even if you don’t want to subscribe for years. Excellent payment model in my opinion. Some of my favourites so far are:

Opticom XLA-3: Such a great deep sound, even on pretty tame settings adds a lot of character to the low end. Really suits darker and noisier sounds.

Black Box HG-2: Really versatile and good sounding saturation/distortion. I’ve been a fan of Klanghelm SDRR for years, but this has pretty much replaced it for me. I really dig the high end especially. Great from individual tracks to master bus and everything in between.

bx_opto: Another optocompressor. Cleaner sound compared to the opticom. Super quick and easy to set up, pleasant transient response, such a useful simple compressor.

bx_townhouse buss compressor: Amazing on drums, even on master bus. Tight and deep but still natural. Just slap it in there and it makes stuff sound better.

SPL Passeq: I’ve been using this on kind of arranging tool, making drones and arps and other noises fit together on the frequency spectrum. Big tone shaping potential and even drastic changes sound natural.

The class A shadow hills is sick too. Black box is on every project I work on and I too recommend it

These SSL Native mastering plugins from the bundle are the #1 vsts of any that I’ve used. And I’ve used everything but uad. Super smooth and gorgeous sounding but also just extremely easy to use and perfect controls. The parametric eq control where the bands morph into 3 segments that you can adjust from there is perfect and makes everything so fast.

Also, the best thing is that you can hear them working immediately. I have never used plugins that were this clear in how they are affecting your audio. Even fabfilter eq3 and the ableton eq8, my previous favorites don’t even come close. I could never figure out how to use the channel strip style eqs whatever they’re called, but I finally figured it out in like 3 minutes with the ssl version. Not that it’s a mystery, it just doesn’t have the spectrum view that a parametric eq does, but it is so helpful to actually hear how the plugin is affecting the mix. And it sounds so good.

I can’t even articulate how happy I am to have found these. I put the x comp, parametric eq, and channel strip on my octatrack stereo mix down in ableton and it was a massive difference from my regular master chain. I couldn’t even believe what I had been missing. I don’t even know how to account for how much more clarity and richness exists in these versus every single other plugin I have. I have so many bundles like eventide, izotope, uvi, Sonible, voxengo, meldaproduction, plugin alliance, waves, slate, many many more and have never heard anything even close to this.

Highly recommended
