I am trying to gauge desires and looking for contributions.

I liked the Norns/circles thing very much but we don’t have a starting point like that.

Whatever you think about shoot me a line, I will begin to work blind until then. Open to your thoughts and directionals.

The main takeaway I got from the Norns/circles Video was that each person’s drone/part was featured for just a moment and then the images progressed through to a sort of climax.

First thing I did was think about the math (calling Andrew Yang)

So the Norns video is 3:33 or 213 seconds. Eleven people - That means ~19.33 seconds per person. A short time. So the ask is from each of you I am rounding down to 19 seconds.

So I am asking for photos but I don’t know what is available - if people have iPhones then you can do a Live Video Photo which is then actually a tiny video - that can be used as a base to do feedback effects upon. Live Video Photos are actually 3 seconds long - so this makes it easy if you are on an iPhone. Shoot one or two Live Video Photo and send them to me and viola done.

Keeping in mind timing if you are on an Android phone - just images or extremely short video - less than 19 seconds total and you are done. I can do a lot with small things & any images you send are perfect. Longer will be cut judiciously but short.
Each of you can be featured in the trailer using this method.

Another thought I had was to do vertical clips so that they could be shared on instagram and other apps of that sort - I know that on youtube it is not the preferred format but this way each clip could be shared by each artist on their social channels posting as well as the composite and hopefully that would make it seen more.

So my ask is for vertical formant camera images. That way when I supply each of you with a video clip that is your section you can post it on instagram if you like. (or any other service you use)

My basic plan…

Collect images from you all- as soon as possible - don’t sweat what you have is great - fast deadline - just do it now- it’s already on your phone. Hope all of you please reply before end of weekend.

If you truly have nothing or just want to take what you get then I will create something - just drop me a note and say you want to be surprised.

Marry sound to image - @jlmitch5 is working on the mix.

Do feedback or sundry effects - process or merely adjust images unknown at this time. Blend it all together.

Seek approval. Direct hidden link will be provided.

At that point I can try to address all critiques complaints etc.

So from each of you the “ASK” again is one or more vertical format images you would like to use to set the “scene” of your piece. I would prefer images that represent something to you. ( copywrite free so no video game characters etc)

If sending any video, remember your actual screen time will be less than 19 seconds.
The total run time of the final video will not exceed 4 minutes 45 seconds and probably will be less depending on edit.

Just a last call, anyone who has anything to add to the video - cutoff is today.
So all procrastination has happened and the birds are migrating.

Hey thanks for taking a stab at this @robotboot

I’ve gotten some feedback and people seem to be into this one from @smbols so I think we are set on the art, sorry for not updating about it sooner!

Is this a still from some video synth stuff? If so and you got a quick snippet of video to send @lumena this could potentially be cool in that?

i can take a look or try and generate something if you are looking for video. a lot of my video process involves video feedback so thats kind of fitting. I normally work in 4:3 but can make something 16:9 if thats what you doing…let me know so i can figure out how to go about it.

I was only asking if you had something ready. I am in the editing stage for this one now. I expect to have a rough cut sometime on friday.
I would love to do some collaborations in the future, truly. :cat2:

I am working in vertical to target short things for places like instaggram and FB. So my format is 4:5 vertical looks great on a phone. 1040 x1920

I have been doing lots of feedback effects using signal culture apps. The are pretty close to hardware, and similarly buggy in a good way. Finishing up in Motion and FCPX.

But really check out signal culture…
Signalculture.org
Worth the small donation the apps cost - the framebuffer and maelstrom were the most useful. They also take a camera in so lots of live processing is possible.

Hey everyone, the release thread is now live! I would sincerely like to thank everyone that helped this project come to be. In the middle of February, there was a death in my family, which made it very difficult to focus and be in a creative space to accomplish what I had set out to do. But what did end up coming out of things (the compilation, the sketches shared, and the techniques and ideas discussed) ended up being better that what I had originally had in mind. I’m able to look back on this project fondly rather than it feeling like a failure, which is a nice thing in the midst of a lot of stress and emotions.

If you’d like, I’d encourage you to share any thoughts about your process in the new thread.
