Lekko and Jasno sequenced by Orca (plus droning OP-1):

I was disappointed to not find instruments that could not be seen or heard.

(Sorry. Both Lekko and Jasno look and sound amazing – can’t wait to try them!)

Awesome stuff! Could you please share more info about the process? I’d love to share this on facebook, too!

Well, it’s not fancy

I knew I wanted to write something with both Lekko and Jasno. Started noodling with a chord progression on the OP-1, and once I was happy with that I programmed the rhythm in Orca, and created a patch for Lekko and another for Jasno, on separate MIDI channels.

Then I looked for the settings which sounded like what I heard in my head, and added the notes to the sequence (root for Jasno, chord i for Lekko). I recorded that to tape, and when I was mixing in some noise I tried adding the OP-1 drone, and that stuck. Outboard effects are some modulation with a Mirage, and reverb with a Polara (kept to a minimum on Lekko/Jasno, to avoid messing with your reverb).

Finally played the 414 live to get a stereo mix back to the DAW, and mastered with Ozone.

Thank you for your kind words

Am really, really loving Jasno. Keep 'em coming, @tslesicki!

Just wanted to say thanks, Felt Instruments, for creating intimate and beautiful devices! I picked up Wolno to ensure that the download process would work, and in the two minutes I played with it, came up with the basis of a track. I don’t think I even added any other effects onto the piece! You can here it off the start, here:

Now it’s time to go get the rest of your instruments! Thanks again.

Just wanted to post this here in case anyone missed it. Another amazing release from Felt! These have me really considering picking up a Seabord Block.

Yup, it’s there! And it’s definitely the most crazy thing I every recorded. Marta, who played all three instruments (viola, violin and cello) is an incredible performer. We had four 10-hour days at the studio. By the end of each, we were only half alive, but twice as happy

Thanks for posting, @srogers91!

hoping for AAX one day!

I downloaded Blisko and installed it tonight. Beautiful sounds, but none of the top row sounds will sustain. They all die out after some seconds. Is this normal behavior?

Yes, that’s by design

I would suggest—with great respect and admiration for your work—that you add a sustain loop to the arco voice. When I auditioned the sounds in your video, I assumed that voice could be used as a solo or ensemble instrument. But since it dies out, it can only be used to layer onto something that does sustain. But it doesn’t even show up as an option in the custom voices! So what is its intended purpose?

The arco voice is the only “conventional” sound in the set. Everything else is based on pizzicato or extended techniques. Since the one conventional arco voice doesn’t sustain, this means that Blisko cannot be used as a solo voice or for writing ensembles. It’s only useful for special effects. If I want to write a solo or ensemble string piece, I will need to acquire another string library, because it can’t be done in Blisko due to this limitation in the arco voice.

The Blisko sounds are very beautiful effects, but had I known of this limitation, I would not have purchased all three instruments. Only one is necessary for fx to layer onto another library. There’s no reason to buy all three.

However, if the arco voice did have a sustain loop, then Blisko could be used for solos and ensembles, without the need for an additional library from another manufacturer. Please, please, please implement a sustain loop in the arco voice. Please also make the arco voice an option in the custom menu. Right now it seems fairly useless. It is very beautiful, but what can I do with an arco voice that dies so quickly? It doesn’t even have a function in the custom patch!

I greatly admire what you have accomplished here, but I am very disappointed in this unnecessary limitation in the arco patch. Please, please, please fix this before releasing the other two string instruments. Please understand that I say this will all due respect and affection for your artistry. I just want it to be even better! A sustain loop in the top row arco, and arco in the custom menu (without the sustain loop), will make this a truly outstanding instrument.

I’ll give it a shot  Thanks for suggesting that!

It would be a very soft sustain if it works, though because the sound dies off after the swell so it won’t be traditional anyway. The library doesn’t have standard patches, it’s designed to be textural by design.

Ok, I tried that and unfortunately, it won’t work that way. The sound wasn’t designed for that and it’s impossible to loop in a satisfying matter.

You can always layer in the sul tasto sustain on another track - if you’ll select just one layer in the mixer, you’ll be able to perform it in a semi-dynamic way that would work way better than trying to artificially loop the performance in post.

Can the arco (as is) be an option in the custom patch?

No, because if you moved the mod wheel, the sound would disappear at a certain threshold.

The simplest way to do what you’d like to achieve (and one that would give you the most control over the performance, too) is to have one instance of the plugin set to Arks on one track, and another set to Sul Tasto Sustains on another. Set the Sul Tasto one to one dynamic layer. When you feel the sound of the Ark is too quiet, simply move the mod wheel on the track with the Sul Tasto. This way you can control both layers independently.

When I’m thinking about it, there’s one neat trick you might try - I love doing it myself. Instead of setting the Sul Tasto Sus as a single layer in the articulation mixer, you can set it to two layers and have the Bow Noise in slot A and the Sul Tasto in slot B. This way, you’ll be able to crossfade between a sound of the bow to the sound of the sul tasto. It sounds surprisingly nice, almost as if the sound was dying away.

So, back to the idea - the arks go to a very quiet sound after the crescendo anyway, so then you can fade in the two-layer Moments patch, going from the bow noise to sul tasto to extend the sound in a very natural way.

Does that make sense?

By the way - the volume is also pre-mapped to CC11 so that’s yet another way to control these patches. So (ok, here I go again…) if you have the second track in a two-layer setup with bow noise in slot A and sul tasto in slot B, you can actually have the sound start with a total silence (CC11 down, CC1 down), through the bow noise (CC11 up but mod wheel still down) to sul tasto (CC1 up).

Thanks, I’m excited to try these multi-track combo patches.

@tslesicki really enjoying Blisko! I played the viola from age 8-17 so there’s some real nostalgia here for me.

Would you consider adding support for .tun files so that your instruments could be easily played in different tunings?
