you’re very welcome.

  1. the only midi controller i have used with norns is the midi fighter twister. it works great. mapping it to norns could not be easier.

  2. woa was not familiar with this module. pretty cool. unfortunately, ios does not support multiple / aggregate audio interfaces. this was a let down for me too as i thought i would be able to use my es-8 and icconecivity audio 4+ at the same time. but in case i miss understood the question, you can route and record multiple sources at the same time with a single interface. so for example i can record my modular and volca in through different inputs at the same time and i can use aum to route everything.

  3. i have used auria as a recorder. i don’t really use it for anything else.

I just got norns/grid and would love to map my midi fighter twister to it. Any pointers? Thanks!

The best thing about Auria is that it offers all the Fab Filter plug-ins. They do a sale several times a year and they are like $10ea. Great plugins that are great on the touch screen.

To set up midi controllers just head to the params page. Hold key 1 and then scroll to enable cc-mapping. Then release key 1 and you will find that the params page has most of the parameters enabled for mapping. Then you scroll to the parameter you want to map, press key 3 and wiggle a knob on the controller, and it’s mapped. Repeat as needed and then press key 1 to go save the configuration.

Thanks for the responses! Does anyone know of any iPad apps that could emulate the Grid and send data to the Norns via usb/midi that way?

TouchOSC will work over WiFi - but you’d need to do some OSC tweaking in scripts since I don’t think many scripts use OSC right now

unfortunately apple’s policies make it impossible to directly emulate a monome grid on iOS (without joining their costly MFi certification program.)

there are many OSC and MIDI control apps, some of which support USB connections.

Any battery recommendations?

I have one of these which I’m fairly happy with:

I think there are newer models. IIRC my informal test of norns + grid running off this particular battery got me something like 15-20 hours. Having 2x USB-A ports is nice as I can run 2x norns or 1x norns and a Sound Devices preamp off this.

These two pedals are right in my sights too. I had been staring at the Count to Five but the Volante seems … well, just more hi-fi.

I picked up both and while I haven’t had as much time to dig deep, my first reaction is these are fantastic and everything I was hoping for and then some. I also picked up Tomkat’s Cloudy (Clouds in a pedal format) and I am in heaven now. Loving these all immensely - highly recommend!

have been mulling whether to buy a small 20-40 key thing (like the mpk mini ) for midi wrangling w/ norns

the price of most options has been just enough to give me pause
plus…i’m illogically keyboard averse when making music and only cave in as a last resort

maxs
so i’m hyped to have found these on ebay somehow
a bus powered class compliant box which has:

  • 4 MIDI sliders
  • 12 MIDI knobs
  • 10 MIDI buttons
  • MIDI crossfader

should be perfect for routing cc’s and triggering a few notes in various apps!

Looks like there are several to be had quite cheaply on ebay – good find! Please report back with how it works out.

for sure
auction won yesterday and should arrive for testing by week end

my only gripe so far is the panel graphic and worry about texture of fader caps, but i’ll wait to reserve judgement and/or customizing them at some point

all in all cant complain yet!

So here’s an iConnectAudio4+ use case I’m curious about - can I both connect the outs of the Norms to the inputs of the iCA4+, as well as connect the outs of the iCA4+ to the inputs of the Norns? I’d like to record audio into the Norns, pipe it through the iCA4+ to the iPad for processing and saving, then load those samples back through the iCA4+ into the Norns for use in MLR and glut. On paper I think I could set this up and just handle routing via aum.

Thanks for the guidance!

does anyone know if the Norns function with the midi input/output of the Arturia keystep? Haven’t been able to try this yet but thinking about hooking it up to my Akai S6000 soon.

Do you mean sending midi from norns usb through the keystep and out it’s midi output? I can give this a test tomorrow, I think it works fine though

correct, both the input and output actually. and thanks!
