First - see if the keypad shows up in the SYSTEM>DEVICES>HID menu. (I probably should).

Then you could get my hid_demo scripts to see what codes/keys are being sent from the keypad. Then script something up

Yeah I have done all that.
It seems good!
The only thing Im worried about is the caps lock. It toggles the led and I’m hoping that can be changed through the script.
Next up is going through the tutorial studies and learning lua stuff.

A post was merged into an existing topic: MPE/touch controller options?

Alright y’all I feel like a complete moron. I have an instrument that is putting out a quiet signal (roughly -10dBV, but honestly a lil quieter). Norns expects (roughly) pro-level +4dBu. I bought this Line Level Shifter https://www.amazon.com/Ebtech-LLS-2-Level-Shifter-2-Channel/dp/B0002MSVDY that I figured would do what it said: take a quiet signal and boost it by about 11.78 dB (not quite 14 dB due to the dBu vs dBV conversion). Instead… nothing seems to be happening. In fact, it seems that the signal is even quieter. I’ve tried plugging the cables in both ways, just to be sure.

I could have sworn I understood this stuff, but clearly not. What am I getting wrong?

Have you tried both channels?

Have you tried a different cable?

Do you have other device that outputs low level that you could test with (phone etc)?

Seems like it should do what you need though.

I have been asked a few times about different accessories that I use for my norns rig so here are my norns EDC items and links to procure such things!

so…
Here are a few of the things I use that make for a very comfortable norns environment.

norns stands:

powered USB hub

also a note about the USB Hub use…
They are a GREAT way to manage your WiFi plugs.
I keep the WiFi plug on the USB Hub and NOT norns.
The fastest way to turn them on and off since they can
become very problematic when left on.
Power consumption and other small issues.

MIDI I/O

1.6 foot Left Angled mini USB cables:

9inch Left Angle USB cables

Wi-Fi USB Adapter:

USB Meter:
(this is for checking to make sure the USB power brick you are plugging into is REALLY providing enough power) - highly suggested by @zebra
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B019RHJRM8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Waterproof Case:
This model will carry: 2x norns, 2x grids, 2x arcs, USB power, USB cables

Tablet stand 9 7/8x9 7/8
(this is a new addition…it has room for and angles up both the grid and arc)

Following @dan_derks recommendations, I bought one of these to go with my DIY Norns and now I can plug straight into Ableton without a separate audio interface…perfect for the very small, or in my case portable, studio.

Was there to be a link here? Cause this sounds like it could be of interest to me.

Looking back through the thread for clues, I think the @dan_derks recommendation mentioned by @LazyCircuits might be the Roland UM-ONE, which has been discontinued and replaced by the Roland UM-ONE mk2.

Ooooooh, gosh, I thought he was referring to a potential audio interface that wasn’t listed. Sometimes I fail reading comprehension.

oh! it was actually a super tiny audio interface . plug into laptop, run stereo audio cabling from norns into it, send audio into Live. really glad to hear it worked out for @LazyCircuits!

Oops. Anyway, glad I pinged you so people can get the right thing now.

Whoaaaaaa! This thing looks sweet! What a bonkers little find.

Tested a few more cables and channels, and it looks like it’s an issue with the instrument itself. Other instruments get the boost you’d expect, but the one I bought it for doesn’t. Must be some sort of… impedance thing? EE knowledge fails me 🤷

This is what happens when you post on an iPhone and forget to copy the link

Thanks @dan_derks for knowing what I was going to post as well as helping me with my audio conundrum.

That’s odd. What is the instrument?

Typically the passive conversion boxes just have resistors and a transformer to change the impedance, so it should work indiscriminately with whatever signal you give it.

Do you have a norns or a norns shield?

The original comment made me think the issue was some balanced/unbalanced nonsense or odd stereo summing, but that would only be the case if you were using a norns shield, or a stereo TRS out on the instrument.
