I’ve got the first one and it’s just okay.

Pros:

  • very cute
  • the cork-stand can be removed if you want to hang it up from something
  • it can be quite loud, provided you’re careful about placement.

Cons:

  • doesn’t sound awfully nice, to be honest
  • takes alkaline batteries or must be plugged in
  • was occasionally noisy for me

I have the similar sized Teenage Engineering Ikea speaker. I wonder how it compares?
The TE one is rechargeable which is nice.

Thanks for the review!

I think this model actually looks nicer than the TE equivalent.

I would be keen to try both out and compare (difficult in the noisy/hellish environment of Ikea ).

I have the bigger version in my garage and it works great for that purpose (I’m just using it as a bluetooth speaker for radio though).

Does anyone have any experience using Norns, running the Kria scripts with the 225e? I’ve read discussions about using Ansible but using Norns to run Kria seems like a much cleaner way of getting the job done.

I don’t believe either of them are using a 225e in their setups, but I think @Tyresta and @mmml are two lines members who use Norns and Buchla together. Perhaps they have some insight here?

did you have a specific question? i am rather familiar with the 225e. it is a pretty standard DIN MIDI device as seen from outside the cabinet. you need to use a USB-MIDI interface on the norns to talk to it.

I do! Thanks for reaching out. I’d like to use Norns Kria script to send gates and cv’s to the 225 so that I can patch them out to my system in the same way the Ansible does in Eurorack. Is that possible?

Thanks again.

norns kira sends out midi and you can choose a midi channel for each of the 4 lanes but the midi out clock seams a bit funky. the norns version has been recently updated to that it works but is still missing many features that are a part of ansible especially since ansible as been recently updated also. I use both because i already had a norns and the kira sequencer is great fun on midi stuff also. the ansible version has some great features that are not in the norns one and is a lot more reliable at the moment.

That’s great info. Thanks so much for your help and insight!

I was searching for a super small midi controller for norns (i want it be smaller then norns itself)
Then the following came up in the new why we bleep:

Goto around 50 minute mark. I need this thing right now

this does seem rad. @disquiet—did you get your hands on this? how do you like it?

Hi. I’m groggy this morning. Which device?

Apologies—that wasn’t clear. In the Why We Bleep video above, at around the 50-minute mark, Tom says he made this little MIDI controller for you, or perhaps inspired by you.

Oh, very cool. Thanks. Yes. I hadn’t watched this yet. How super. Yes, I almost always have it in my bag. Here it is in its little Pelican 1010 case.

That’s lovely. Would love to get my hands on one. Seems perfect as you’re using it: as a travel companion.

It’s really great for lots of reasons. I considered having buttons, too, but realized in most (“use”) cases, I’d have my laptop, and a laptop keyboard means I’ve already got lots of buttons.
