Very curious to know how this works out for you.

any one modded their Norns with one of these?

I’ve got it and figured out how to make it work, just need to crack my (200323) Norns pi and mess about a bit. Tips and links to any existing guides welcome
I’m thinking of using it to give me a realtime sense of the levels in and out as I plug the norns in as an aux loop on the TX-6 - eg taking a feed from the input for one channel and the output for the other. Not worried about doing anything special wrt stereo->mono, mainly keen to not fsck the pi or shield.

I find these decent too:

hey Dewb,
did you try the line 6 controller with Norns yet, I’d be very curious re: anything foot control related, thanks!

@fivethirtyoneam I can confirm, MIDI in/out works perfectly with the Sevilla Soft on the USB host of the Hapax.

Great to hear my friend I will order one myself as I was looking to do the same thing.

Yes, it [the Line 6 FBV Express mkII USB pedal] works pretty well! It’s bus-powered, so you can connect it to norns with a USB A-B cable, select it as a midi device, and start mapping params. You can map the pedal to any continuous param, or the buttons to any on/off param.

To get the behavior you want out of button mapping, you may need to first set up the momentary/toggle settings of the buttons using the Line 6 editor with the pedal attached to a computer.

Alternately, if you’re writing a script specifically designed to react to midi from the pedal, you could implement whatever behavior you want in lua. It would also be straightforward to modify your favorite scripts to interpret the buttons as key1/2/3.

Is Arturia MiniLab 3 works with norns?

Well, it’s a standard MIDI controller so I don’t see why not. You’ll be able to use it as a keyboard and to map its controls within scripts that allow this.

Oh, that listing is frustrating me, but it’s likely just incorrect… I cannot find a source of 128x64 color ips displays!

Do the tiny trim pots adjust the signal level? If so can you measure there resistance (in circuit should be fine in the case) hopefully it’s more than 10k?

Apart from the trim pots, it should have reasonably high input impedance, so you should have no issue piggybacking off the input or output jacks, but there is a risk of introducing some (hopefully minor) noise. If you really want to be safe then you could use a rail-to-rail op amp to buffer the signal (mcp6002 comes to mind) I’d be tempted to try without first.

The current requirements seem low enough that you should be able to use the 5v rail off your pi with no risk.

Just saw this today and ordered one immediately. Even though the shipping is a bit expensive outside the US(50$ to Iceland)

Looks cool, sounds ok judging by the demo’s, has a pre-amp(powered by a small battery), gain settings and a 1/4" jack

Should be an awesome addition to my Norns!

I’m curious about these. The form factor is cool! How will the sound quality be from the electret condenser mic inside?

Ok I have calmed down a bit. I wish it wasn’t a CR2030(or something) battery, and I wish they had made the promo in their classic style.

Those type of batteries are super cheap but I do get a preference of having AA or AAA since everyone have some laying around at home.

Given that analog electret pre amps draw little power it should last for a long time(2032 are typically around 210mAh) so I’d think more than 20 hours of usage? (given maybe 10mA current draw).

I’m completely spitballing here since they haven’t released any proper usage hour number.

Me and my friend watched that Bolsa Bass video so often when it came out haha, love it

Follow up for current draw:

I just grabbed a boring old white one—there’s a few more left.

Looking for microphone recommendations, setups, etc and generally just curious about what y’all prefer and why. To pre amp vs not to pre amp.

I know a stock answer is to use a field recorder like the Zoom H4N, but the new Critter and Guitar Microphone looks like a perfect fit to use with Norns!

these look cool I’ll read up on them - for the Zoom H4N are users here running that through a pre-amp?

I am not. I’m just running headphone out into Norns shield in, works fine. Disclaimer - I have no need for hifi audio.
