hey all, this one’s been out since last week but I just wanted to share my latest album ‘Future Acid 2000’. I think it’s the most focused this I’ve worked on before (likely because it was my undergraduate research project so it had to be focused haha).
The core ‘thing’ about this album is that it’s (almost) entirely made with a set of Pd tools I made, based around chaotic and non-linear systems, from feedbackers, to unstable oscillators, to chaotic controllers. the biggest challenge with digital feed backing stuff is making it sound good/interesting… whatever the case is I’m fairly happy with the result.
the other thing about this is a very strong inspiration from the early(ish) (Editions) Mego releases - Pita, Farmers Manual and Florian Hecker’s early works were all a massive touchstone for this album, so if you like that…
Anyways, hope you enjoy :))

Thanks for explaining your process—that really intrigued me, especially as I am beginning to learn Max/MSP and am hoping to arrive at a place where I can create the instruments and effects I want to make tunes with rather than hope they exist and purchase the closest approximations to them. From that POV, your album is already inspiring!!
I’m a few tracks in and it sounds really cool. Appreciate you sharing and congrats on the accomplishment and the release!

@anon78160790 thanks a bunch glad you like it!! :))
@Zeke_B tho you’re trying out Max/MSP, although this project is in Pd, there is a link to my GitHub repo with all the tools in it which anyone is welcome to look through if you want some inspo. something I’ve found really useful for making more interesting sound is liberal use of saturation, particularly tanh functions to wave shape signals, giving it more of a clipped/saturated sound, as well as sample-wise processing (in Pd with [fexpr~] and in Max/MSP gen~)), though the latter probably isn’t something you’d want to start with when learning Max/MSP (or any music programming language for that matter).

That is really cool! I will definitely take a peak, even though I may not grasp what I’m seeing.
We are kindred spirits in loving saturation and I appreciate the tips! Btw, the sounds in “click cuts” are suuuuuuper awesome. Will definitely be listening to this a few more times.
