i almost did, didn’t connect with it, but happy now i didn’t. strangely, same thing with 3 sisters - it just didn’t work for me but kept it and now think it will shine when used with JF as well.

if i’m honest the main reason I let it go was because of size

i knew i wanted to try the arc eventually but was out of space (figured i could get a second 3sis and still have room for ansible for the same hp “price”)

it was an interesting but brief excursion and someday i might buy or trade for another

as many posts above indicate, with infinite time and cashflow i might keep all but in this reality i limit myself by keeping my system small and tightly focused

Oh yes it will.

How it will.

You all have very successfully contributed to my Mannequins GAS.

funny that you mention having a lukewarm reaction to three sisters initially because i had the opposite experience

after resisting for a few years i got it the same time as JF this summer and, once it was installed, immediately fell in love

i could justify trading or selling anything in my rack except TT and sisters…if i ever got rid of them i’d just quit euro altogether and move on to something else

I’m tempted to get Three Sisters given my love for the other Mannequins stuff I have, but I don’t have the space and I’d need to get rid of my Tiptop or Koma filters, which I both love. Plus, I prefer the Frankenstein approach over a consistent manufacturer. Just feels more fun to me. That said, it DOES look awesome and I obviously have a lot of faith in the Mannequins line.

The Frankenstein approach has many disadvantages, but your instrument is more or less guaranteed to be unique.

I have yet to have any feeling of disadvantage(s) in the 4 or 5 years that I’ve been fiddling with modulars so I guess I’m doing alright  Cheers!

Ah, just re-read my comment and it’s a bit ambiguous, I’m definitely in favour of mixed up systems. I think I was trying to say that while they do have disadvantages (e.g. envelope voltages), it’s far outweighed by having something that’s unique and ‘yours’.

Oh, I don’t know that I read into it too much, just saying I’ve never felt anything but joy from the time I’ve spent playing. I try not to overthink it (with mixed results).

“I buy just this last thing and then I quit” - my thinking before buying the next thing… Just pulled the trigger on an arc & ansible

dj mixer and the arc / ansible pair are the last sound art tools I have on the horizon at the moment

but this week I’ve been weighing whether I need new tubes of riso ink (I don’t)
it all started when i found an impossibly good deal online and had to talk myself out of the purchase

I’m doing No Spend November. Basically this month, after bills and food shops I’m not buying anything else. No petty cash. No going out (I’ll obviously go out for my own gigs), No posh barista coffee… And hopefully No GAS.

The first thing I’ve noticed is that my web browsing has had to change. Half of the sites I visit are GEAR oriented, be that cameras (I don’t need more camera gear), musical instruments (I don’t need more instruments) or books (need to READ more books, but I don’t necessarily need to OWN them).

boredom bred my browsing habits and I know which sites to avoid when I don’t want to spend $

my interests are wide enough that I can find SOMETHING I want to buy if I allow myself to look at all

What an excellent idea. I’m going to give it a try.

Genuine necessity for sustaining life? OK. Otherwise, pass.

Me too. Time to get that new laptop.

To celebrate No Spend November there’s a GAS haiku thread. I’d also add - my father in law goes shopping with a camera and takes pictures of all the stuff, instead of actually buying anything…

That sounds like the way my father goes hunting. He’ll sit in a tree stand for hours. The deer will walk right up to him. He smiles. That’s it. I’m not sure why he brings the gun.
