That’s what I thought. If I wasn’t an Eurorack enthusiast (I have an ER-301 on order) and If I wasn’t a heavy iPad user, I’d be very interested in it. At the moment it doesn’t seem to offer any large advantage on the other options I have.

Volca GR, that would be fun, but I have a MicroGranny.

As far as I ses it doesn’t have audio-in, so no live-sampling/recording.

I’m very intrigued by it… but it’s not a time for gear acquisitions. Fortunately there will be enough people buying it and then selling it after a couple of months as usual

yeah, the lack of a live input is a serious nonstarter for me. especially when you could buy an iPad mini and borderlands for half the cost.

I had not noticed the lack of an audio in. I had assumed it had one. Even my MicroGranny has one.
They say that when the €50,000 is reached they will add “Sampling via USB interface/dongle. Record and save samples on the GR-1.” So you’ll attach an USB soundcard (even a 30 eur behringer uca-202) and you’ll be able to sample directly in the machine.

Strange choice though, especially for the price.

I got to play on one of these at Schneidersladen while on tour in Berlin and was very impressed in particular with the interface, been seriously considering one. Anyone been using it and have any thoughts? Haven’t seen many in the wild, but this new update makes it even more tempting.

The price is quite fine for what’s on offer. I found a lot of issues with the UX design when I tried it during SB18, but that wasn’t bad enough to not buy it. It’s definitely one of the most tempting synthesizers I’ve come across so far. The UI is very welcoming indeed.

Oh! Now it’s multitimbral? Starts to look compelling. Though I have spent 20 years writing my own instruments for this in Reaktor. Granular synthesis is something I would resist dispatching to a dedicated device.

I’ve been thinking for awhile about purchasing one. I’m a sucker for hardware multitimbral synths. Are they back to shipping currently? When I last looked, it appeared the lead time was fairly high.

I ordered from Perfect Circuit (MEMORIAL10 discount code was still working as of a few days ago), not sure if their ETA is the same or what, but I can wait. I’ve had a Wavestate on backorder since April and gold TD-3 on preorder open since February…

Bit of a necrobump,
I am thinking of getting a GR-1 and I have been trying to find out if it is possible to use the audition mode as a simplistic ordinary sample player. I am hoping for something like the functionality of the Radio Music module so that when I don’t want to use it as a granular machine I can still trigger samples. Any help or pointers to help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, the audition feature acts like a sample player (without the grains). You can pitch it up and set loop in/out without the granular (I attached a screenshot of the manual–you can also access this engine from the Global menu–as opposed to a key combo). I’m not familiar with the Radio Music module, so I’m not sure what kind of functionality you’re trying to replicate.

Cool,
Radio Music is just a simple sample player for Eurorack. Besides choosing the sample all it really does is trigger, and set start point. Sounds like the GR-1 is perfect.

But how quickly/often do you want to switch samples? Do you want to trigger them from another device?
I don’t think that the GR-1’s audition mode would be a great mechanism if you are trying to randomly scrub through a bank of samples. (as you have to hit play and use a rotary encoder to navigate a kind of arcane file structure). If you are trying to layer longer samples (up to 4) it can be kind of cool in standalone mode.
