I recently discovered the joys of plugging LFOs into the expression pedal input on guitar pedals and have become a little obsessed with the possibilities.

I’ve got an EHX Deluxe Memory Boy on the way that I picked up cheaply which looks impressive in terms of how flexible the expression pedal input is. I’m wondering if it can go a step or two (/four) further, though…

At present the DMB has one CV input for expression which can be assigned to any one of four delay controls via a selection toggle button. I’m wondering if anyone knows whether it could be modified to provide access to all four of the controls at once rather than only one at a time. Has anyone tried? It strikes me as the perfect pedal delay partner for a synth if that could be achieved!

Don’t sleep on the Adventure Audio Again pedal. It has five (5) CV ins, one for each control knob, right on top of the pedal. So you can throw all of your sequencers/LFOs at it, and the control knobs work as offsets.

The other cool thing about it is that the out sends the dry signal to ring and the wet signal to tip on a TRS y-cable. So you can process both after if you want to.

That sounds incredible! Not easy to come by over here, alas & I tend to get hit with significant import duties whenever I buy anything from the US, but I’m very interested!

Boss DC2W and Fromel Seraph Deluxe - Always loved Dimension style choruses and this works great with synths, I love it on high/fizzy/airy pad sounds the most.

Moog MiniFooger Drive - Very underappreciated/under the radar device, absolutely NUTS pedal that has clean boost, distorted FET boost/overdrive, the classic transistor ladder filter (with Res), CV input, and another crazy EQ style filter. A huge array of sounds can be had. I like to pair it with my Mood Grandmother doing dirty bass and leads. Insane on electric guitar too.

NOS Germanium FuzzFace - My friend Gael from TouellSkouarn built for me in return for some mastering work, but I only use it when I really want to destroy things!

Eventide H9 Max - Works as well for synths as it does for guitars.

I also have a reamp box from Orchid Electronics permanently hooked up so I can send any balanced line level tracks from the PC through it and into the tube amp or the pedals (or both!)

I’m a junkie for the Recovery Effects stuff. Many of the designs are explorations of what you can do with an envelope follower + delay plus some distortion. They go incredibly extreme but each has a variety of sweet spots as well. Fantastic on all kinds of sources. Just finished an EP that makes extensive use of their Viktrolux (no longer made but could get maybe get close to it with Cutting Room Floor).

Anyone have recs for a flanger that can stay relatively static? Looking for a comb filter effect.

I had the original EHX Electric Mistress once. It had some setting that didn’t move. “FIlter matrix” - or something?

I only just got onto the latest Tensor firmware update, making it stereo and accepting midi in the expression input, pretty epic update.

I want to control the the loop decay time using midi. I tried using a faderfox UC4 connecting direct from the mini trs midi out into the Tensor but no joy, do I still need something like an Empress Midi Box? I have a couple of Chase Bliss pedals too I’d like to control.

I believe it’s just midi over USB on those guys.

I have a Tensor (not updated yet) a Darkworld, and a Dimension D i‘m dying to try out on my new Protools rig with the insert points on a Cranborne Audio interface…these will be my ‚special‘ sound design weapons for my line level daily work with voices/mixes/foley. These three are great with guitars or synths/modular as we know already, totally fresh approaches to FX.
The Tensor to me has great potential with precise midi tweaking for my approach. I have a Torso Electronics T-1 incoming, that would bring euclid/random probability to the Tensor and my Protools/line levels :sunglasses:
Hi im a Soundesigner that got very bored with stock libraries and in 2021 (the decade of the aquarius just started😆) i think my shenanigans with my modular paid off-anything can be tried from digital to analogue, midi to cv on a very high level of audio quality. Its here to be abused-feedbackloop on the Dimension D anyone?

I‘m a big n00b on fuzz/distortion/overdrives though. I‘ve a black ash that sounds wonderful on guitar but not very cool on synths or rather not like something that I’d want…will have to listen to different things. Maybe what i want is to have the sound distort through an amp with a cabinet and then miked? A la Suicide?

Not any more midi is accepted at the exp pedal input as of the last update.

Hi! I’m newer to the forum (been on Elektronauts for a while, lurked here but signed up because I purchased a Ciat-Lonbarde Plumbutter 2 and this is a great place for that stuff) and I’ve started a new series reviewing pedals with synths, drum machines, and samplers. Trying to go for a casual brief intro, knob & button overview, then a long session of just trying them out, followed by a quick overview/summary. Really just trying to provide the type of review/demo videos I like. Dropping a new episode every 2 weeks, with 2 already live (Recovery Effects Dirty Murals and another with the Walrus Audio Slo), another coming on the 15th! I have some good stuff coming too: a Demedash T-120 V2, Montreal Assembly Count to Five, OTO Machines BIM, a few Dwarfcraft Devices pedals, and the AC Noises AMA V2 - just for starters. Anyway let me know what you all think! Happy and ready for suggestions and criticism and all the above haha. Thanks for checking it out and I definitely think this might be of interest of anyone on this thread. =)

does anyone have experience using something like the boss eq-200or eq7after any of their synths? or even after a hardware sampler as a sculpting tool? i was also considering the electro harmonix platform compressor but i think that would be more for further down the signal chain

I haven’t gotten one yet, but I’ve been eyeing up the eq-200 as well. the stereo/mono splitting possibilities and preset recall already open up a lot of options. it would be amazing if the exp or midi controls could be assigned a bit more flexibly like to specific/sets of bands for hands-free realtime shaping, but it still being a guitar pedal mainly I can see why this wouldn’t be an interest or consideration unless you are a sound design nut and using things like synths. same for being able to set your own EQ bands rather than choosing from a set of three, but can’t have everything. especially for using it with analog gear I could see how having channel A be your signal path and B being in a feedback loop somewhere in the chain and switching or sequencing between various iterations of a preset could make it quite ‘playable’, which is kind of my main interest in it.

I tend to be of the opinion that granular stuff is best handled with a computer, but there are now a lot of pedals out there that do this. Does anyone have experience with Fabrikat or other similar Pladask pedals? Would you say it is more or less flexible and controllable than other granular pedals out there? My perception is that pedals like Microcosm and Mood are maybe a bit 1 trick pony-ish, but cool as special fx if you happen to want to use the specific thing it does to a source.

Side question, anyone using Romferd by Pladask in their set up? I got pretty close to some Romferd sounds with Soundtoys Echoboy and Valhalla Supermassive, but the pedal has seems to have a nice character that isn’t quite like what I can get easily in the box.

Really just want to give myself some very flexible go to pedal options for basic sound shaping with my external gear, and so far have focused on distortion/delay/reverb/compression/tremolo. That covers most of it, but looking for some creative multi-purpose options.

I have a Fabrikat but I think it shines more on voice or something that is very distinctive. You don’t notice much the mangling with something that is already abstrakt.
I recommend a Red panda Particle 2. It strikes a nice balance between ease of use and diversity.
My favorite Manglepedal is Drolo FX Disruptor. The Mood is nice too and can be more versatile than one would expect but I really dislike the knobs which are very sharp. Ofc I could have replaced them.
Never had a Microcosm but I´m good now with manglers.

I disagree that a computer is best for granular. In my experience hands on is more fruitful, fun and comfortable.
