Actually, now that i’ve checked, there are quite a few on youtube. There’s a video comparing Zoom’s particle reverb vs Line 6 M5’s version that as it goes along shows how it can sound pretty extreme. Ironically, my ms70cdr sounds more like the recording of the section of the M6. There’s this video of the 70 paired with a volca in set and forget mode. There’s also a ton of videos like this Blackhole Zoom vs Eventide Space compared to MS70CDR H9 reverb.
The Lone Wolf’s MS-70CDR video is edited funny but gives maybe the best sense of what the MS70CDR can do for your sound when treated like an instrument.

Wasn’t sure where to ask this but I’m looking at the EHX Microsynth, is it worth hunting for an older version in the in the plain metal case or is there no difference in terms of sound with a new one (with the unpleasant graphics)?

If you get a module like the SBG, which can import/export to guitar pedals including CV etc, it’s fun to go into and out of all kinds of guitar pedals. Really opens the possibilities and for people transitioning from an instrument with pedals to eurorack it helps save some cash because many of the pedal format of delays, verbs, etc–the “effect” side of things–they already have or are cheaper, saving money for oscillators and CV manipulation.

Apparently there is Zoom Effect Manager 1.1.0 that I came across in this rather unique tutorial. Not sure how safe this is or if it even works.

I’ve downloaded this, but am a little wary about running it under Wine or using a virtual Windows desktop (there being no Linux version) as USB handling in these circumstances has proven unreliable.

tinkering is fun but i don’t see any effects i’m missing that i want on this. unless i’m overlooking something. if anything, this would be useful for removing effects! i only use like 30.

if anyone tries that editor and it seems reliable on a mac please do report back. I could see how it could be quite handy to be able to put some amp sims or fuzz in weird places in the chain with the modulation effects.

maybe it will also become available with some deeper level diving though I’m guessing it just isn’t implemented to begin with, but if these pedals had CC or better midi functionality it would be such a great deal. While I don’t need to modulate everything being able to even modulate certain parameters without menu diving would make the pedal so much more playable to me. even if a newer version came out with a single assignable expression/CV input I’d probably jump on it.

Pedal obsession is also what brought me to modular!

This week I started running my patches through the pedalboard I have set up for my guitar. I won’t give a backstory on the whole board, but I do have a BNE When The Sun Explodes and Spaceman Spitnik III on there that make Mangrove sound absolutely mean. I like WTSE for a dirtier reverb sound on guitar and definitely warms up patches sent through. I’m still figuring out patches through Sputnik (and admittedly haven’t tweaked it much), but currently it boosts a lot and adds just a touch of grit which is lovely.

I’ll be sure to update here as my explorations continue. I’m planning to redo my board as I really only need a couple of dedicated guitar pedals and the rest could be for guitar or synth. My plan, once I get my TV off of my desk and mounted to the wall is to have a permanent home for my racks and Analog Keys on my desk and then my pedal board will be right next to my feet. I’m currently using the Strymon AA.1 as the line out of my rack into my Apollo, so running it through my pedal board into Apollo even for dry stuff is fine and makes adding effects easy.

Haven’t touched a guitar since the early Covid days, but today I had to get into a recording project for a friend and finally had the opportunity to try out my newish Radial EXTC reamp/effects loop on some recording.

Tried a few takes using my new Chase Bliss Dark World (which I am enjoying) as well as my latest splurge, a MF108 Clusterflux. I won’t mention what I ended up paying for it, but sound wise, I’m pretty stoked.

I have to say, I’m kind of blown away I haven’t thought of getting the EXTC sooner. Sped up my process significantly whereas before I was constantly toe tapping my way through take after take, now I just focus on getting a good sound, a good take, and then treating the effects as a performance in itself.

I have to say I went a little heavy handed on the stuff I recorded today, but with some tasteful mixing it is destined to be my new favorite toy.

I’ve downsized my eurorack case in order to work on a pedal board. I’m using it mostly with the modular, a mini Moog, a prophet rev 2 and bass or acoustic guitar. Here’s what I have so far:

  • Fairfield Circuits Shallow Waters
  • ProCo Rat
  • MXR Sub Machine Octave Fuzz
  • DOD Rubberneck Analog Delay
  • Chase Bliss Dark World
  • Empress Reverb

The Empress is actually set up separately from everything else. It’s used as a stereo send return in my patchbay. It’s my “studio” reverb I use with Ableton. The rest are sent from my modular > into the pedals > and then into a Pendulum Audio Quartet tube channel strip.

Next I’m looking for some unique modulation effects. Maybe some broken sounding lofi stuff. I owned a Meris Hedra and I’m currently selling it. It has a digital quality to it I just didn’t like. So maybe a more “analog” sounding pitch shifting solution too.

Any suggestions out there for weird and unique stuff to add?

There might be too much overlap with your shallow water but the Mid-Fi clari(pirate) looks pretty fun. I have the pitch pirate that is sort of an older slimmed down version and that can get messy but also doesn’t have to. Very versatile for being based around the pt2399 (chorus, delay, vibrato).

Not sure if you want a phaser but the OBNE dweller is that with a few unique features. At the top of my music to-do list is putting that and a couple other pedals in a small suitcase with a row of euro.

There are some good non-serious-riffmaster demos of the dweller out there which helps! In my experience it’s nice to just sort of have on as a more typical phaser but is more fun to use in a more hands on way. I imagine someday it will get old but just flipping the switches while something is running through it is fun :upside_down_face:

It took some serious discipline for me not to buy the obne rever recently. That said, I will not be checking out the visitor :wink:
