count to 5 has a mode where you have independent read heads (but pointed at the same buffer), and modes where you operate on parts of a buffer, but i don’t think any modes or alt firmwares use two distinct buffers.
red panda tensor has a mode that splits its buffer in half: one part is always playing, while the other records, and they swap back and forth. again, not exactly what you’re envisioning, but it’s fun and inspiring (and it’s the first thing i thought of)

Best way to modulate parameters of Thyme is trough the morphing sequencer. Here is one somewhat extreme audio example of sending a humble 0coast trough the robots and morphing (sequencing manually). Of course setting up parameters for sequencing is not as immidiate as the lfo aka the robots (I like how the simple lfos are rebranded here
).
Also one rather nice dual crosstalking feedback machine is Jomox T-Resonator II.

I’ve not used the sequencing on the Thyme as much as I should do, as I find it indeed a bit fiddly to set up; however, I generally have 8 different presets assigned to the patch buttons and swap between them, which can lead to both horrible feedback and happy accidents, depending on the input.
Yes, very much so - a compressor / limiter is essential (or careful control of feedback) but this was almost permanently attached to some outputs for a long time; another pedal I’m trying to integrate into my current setup (and fit physically into the space…) but it sounds like nothing else. The Eurorack version would probably be a great addition someday too as modulating the T-Resonator parameters with CV could be quite ridiculously fun.

Im currently using a Drone Rainger, Shallow Water, Obsidiana and RV-3 with some korg volcas and/or the arturia microfreak synth

I’ve seen them low as $250 when they were plentiful and no one bought one, I’ve seen them as high as $500 when they’re out of stock and people want to scalp. I’d buy around $350 or under since they’re currently out of stock but will eventually restock

Got this pedal today, love it! The low end is one of its kind,

Hi everyone! I haven’t updated this thread in a while, but I’ve had some quality time with some quality effects recently and have the video to prove it haha
. I don’t want to come off as spammy, but the reason I do these is so us audio explorers know what these things do with our gear, so it is in service of us all. =) I hope you enjoy or eat least find some of these useful! I’m up to Episode 23 of Signal Colors now of my full-length in-depth videos, but I’ve also added new formats to the channel, a quicker first-impressions style video I call “Signal Colors: Primer” and an even newer pedal layering series called “Signal Colors: Layers”, both as a way of introducing shorter-length content and as a way to appeal to more folks. Anyway, here is a small selection of newer episodes since I last posted in this thread. Thanks for checking them out!
A full Signal Colors episode for the OBNE Sunlight modulated reverb:
A full Signal Colors episode for the Strymon Volante delay (I love this one):
and a Signal Colors: Primer for the Death by Audio x Levitation “Speed Tripper” phasing delay:
Thanks as always for checking them out! And if you’re ever in the mood, drop comments on them on YouTube. People don’t talk enough there and I like talking gear
!

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the compliment!
The Zoia looks like a beast and I definitely want to take a look at that one sometime. It sounds like what you’re looking for is a pretty tall order haha but I’ve been exploring the Syntax Error 2 from Alexander and it has a shift mode with a sequencer so you can do some fun stuff with that (still learning it though). Otherwise, all I’m familiar with in that general arena is the old-school Moog FreqBox. Hopefully someone here can chime in with some experience and good suggestions!

The EHX Ring Thing does a reasonable job of it: https://www.ehx.com/products/ring-thing/

The ring thing is actually quite excellent, it also does ring mod and pitch shifting, and is one of the only frequency shifters I know of that has both multiple modulation waveforms and an external modulation input.
There’s also the red panda raster, which is a delay with built in pitch and frequency shifter, I’ve never used it so not sure how well it works

Anyone got Barefoot buttons on an H9? I bought some I thought would fit but not so.
A frequency shifter is a kind of ring modulator.
Ring mod creates two frequency sidebands, one that is equal to the sum of the modulator and the carrier and the other that is the difference of the modulator minus the carrier. A frequency shifter isolates a single sideband, either the upper or lower. The Ring Thing has a handy feature of letting you choose which sideband you want to hear at any given time (some frequency shifters do the same thing with positive or negative values rather than have a switch), or both at the the same time so you have a regular ring modulator.
The Frequency Analyzer from EHX is just a ring modulator.

Is there such a thing as a frequency shifter available in a pedal format, if so I’d jump on it? I use an XRE-1 ring mod but would love an analogue freq shifter.

If you’re looking for an analog freq shifter in a pedal, you’re probably out of luck - I’m not aware of one.
Digitally, Line 6 M13 multistomp has one, but that thing is huge. EHX Ring Thing can isolate up and down, but not sure if you can blend them. I’m sure there’s others…

Line 6 M9 has the same, I’d bet the M5 does too.

And probably the HX series also.

I don’t think I ever used the M9 with synths, just guitar. I’ve since parted ways with it, but typically used it for delay/reverb/modulation/filtering more than dirt or eq.
The M5 seems to go for like $100 or so used, which I think is a steal all told. It’s stereo and has MIDI, and really just does one thing at a time I believe. There are enough models that something in there is bound to scratch an itch. The M9 gives you the looper though, which is really great.
A sound example:

As far as I know, there are two commonly used techniques used to achieve frequency shifting, and both rely on ring modulating an input signal with quadrature oscillators. The more common technique is the one used by doepfer frequency shifter as shown here:
The expensive part is the dome filter, which is a bank of allpass filters, and probably why analogue frequency shifters are pretty rare as it’s much cheaper to do digitally
The other algorithm I’ve seen is this one:
But my attempts to use it haven’t sounded all that good

I’ve never seen one. But the A-162-2 has the outputs of the dome filter on a header so it can be used separately. I definitely plan on picking one up!
