Am I the only person who wishes loopers like this had an effects send/return (just one)? I guess that is what Ableton is for.

Yeah, that belongs in the “software loopers” thread we haven’t started yet :wink:

But this box looks ideal for combining with a small desktop modular system. You could easily play a whole set with just that.

It’s definitely the ultimate looper and if I could carry more gear for stage use (I have too much already) I would seriously consider buying it. It basically has everything I wish there was on big sized hardware looper (that I can think of right now) and the layout isn’t even that bad or tasteless which is bonus!

Yeah I always though the RC-505 would be kind of cool but I can’t stand the look of it. This one is actually pretty elegant, and very restrained for an EHX design!

my gripe with ehx loopers has been, and apparently still is, that they won’t build a multi-looper that allows you to record additional loops that aren’t tied to the length of the first one you record*. there are without a doubt uses for that for sure…but its prob for this reason alone i’ll take my rang III to the grave with me.

*unless of course, i missed one/something along the way over the years

update to my earlier addition to the software thread

the software was originally going to be made with karma but I got confused with it so I wrote my own code. If bugs persist it may again be made with karma. It was working enough to make a video demo for my NIME paper though

Being able to map everything to CCs, faders, reverse, 44,1khz sampling, super simple layout, Quantize/Non-quantize, Punch in/out, Midi clock sync, phantom power and multiple types of input… These are ALL features I wish I had in the numerous loopers I bought and gave (yeah, I’m terrible I don’t sell things I just give them away and after I complain that I’m poor). Whenever I have the means to transport more gear, it might convince me to stop looping inside ableton and start looping with a hardware looper again! I’d love that as I really hate to be completely dependant on ableton for live looping…

(Edit: most of the time my problem is, most loopers have 90% of these things and lack 10% of them, and to me, it’s kind of all or nothing, like, no midi clock sync is a no go, no multiple types of input is a no go etc.)

22500 does 2 independent loops. I believe it’s their only looper with that feature.

Yeah, the 22500 allows you to have the two tracks either unsynced or synced and with the second one being a multiple of the first one (with a fixed number or “free”).

It’s sad that the new one doesn’t allow that. I guess it’s because of that mixdown track maybe ?
Also, the 22500 does pitch-stable time strech and that one doesn’t, it seems.

I’d love a 22500 with 4 tracks and clock in sync…

Sorry for bumping an old topic. Didn’t want to start a new thread for this, but given Count to 5 has been mentioned a number of times above I figured I might ask the question here…

Does anyone know if it would be a relatively straightforward mod to add a toggle switch to engage/disengage recording for modes 2 and 3 (i.e. so I don’t need to hold soft switch down to rec)? I did something similar with an old EHX SMMw/H a while back (my soldering skills are pretty basic), but that was following some instructions I’d found online - and I can’t find any similar discussions re. CT5. Would be good to get thoughts from some more knowledgeable folk before I open the pedal up. Is there any practical reason why this wouldn’t be feasible?

Any input appreciated!

I thought Scott had made an alternative firmware to do just that.

Found it:


An alternative firmware for rev k and l. (0.941k). This firmware does not have the volume controls for DIR knobs in mode 3 that were added in 0.95 but does change the way the soft footswitch works. Instead of holding the footswitch to record in modes 2 and 3, you press and release it, and recording will start when the button is released. You can stop recording and initiate playback by holding and releasing the button again. Tapping will reset/erase the recording as usual. No change to footswitch behavior in mode 1.

Bumping this thread. Any looper experiences to share? I’m in the market!

Tempted by the Timefactor on the experimental side, and the Boss 505 on the practical side. Recently looking at the EHX Grand Canyon. Also the Ditto x4.

Ideally would like 2+ loops, ability to decay into a delay, and a few onboard effects.

I love my Pigtronix Infinity Looper, especially with the extra footswitch add on. Lots of options, two loops, easy and useful interface.

I have both the Ditto X4 and Timefactor.

The Timefactor can get a lot more experimental since you can alter the pitch, direction, decay, and start/end points; it can get into some quasi-granular and glitch territory if that is your thing. I tend not use it very much because I prefer the more straightforward nature of the Ditto X4 for loop layering and prefer the tape delay emulation on the El Capistan.

The DX4 can do asynchronous loops and Frippertronic style sound-on-sound looping, though it lacks the nice degradation of the sound that the El Capistan (or real tape) has. I personally think the sound quality of the Ditto is better if fidelity is your thing. The effects are just OK, half speed can be fun and I like the fade out for, well, fading out.
