Oh yes I have! It looks really great (not the design, but what it does of course), but it’s almost impossible to find over here.

Someone must have mentioned by now but just in case and/or for completionist tendencies:

The Looperlative is the gold standard of functional looping devices. There just aren’t too many of them in existence. I have one and it is the bees knees. Multiple tracks, different lengths, syncable lengths, forwards, backwards, everything anyone ever wanted in a looper.

Barring that… there was a Max4Live plugin/system developed by technologist/saxophonist Dan Rome which is fantastic and does what you want as well if you don’t mind the laptop. It’s no longer in active development but I bet if you ask Dan will get you a link.

You’re in luck, the middle button can be set to instantly reverse. One of the knobs chooses what it does, set it to ‘rvdir’. Use mine like this all the time.

I just found this post, and thought about the loopers i used to use years ago djing.
After lots of head scratching i found them in a closet…and they work too!

I figured I’d mention I have two Dittos, and am pondering a third. Combined they work great in parallel and serial, and allow for easy asynchronous activity. A pair of Dittos, my guitar, and my iPad (for effects) make a great setup.

I have considered the bigger Dittos, and may end up snagging one.

This venerable thing was brought out of retirement the other day, in all of its clunky 12-bit glory. Each button is for a segment of a sample recorded in (there is no persistent storage) via the jacks, and they can be triggered individually by the Start/Stop or repeated in a loop that can be chopped up on the fly or pitched rather wonkily. Run through enough effects and it’s quite pleasingly lo-fi and tactile.

The only other time I’ve seen one of these was built into a pair of budget all-in-one DJ record decks made by Waltham or someone similar from the 1990s.

My 2 cents: you will probably never find the «ultimate» looper. I currently have a memory man with hazarai, a Ditto x2 and a Zoia running into a mixer with Fates in the FX loop. Looping the loops.

Oh yeah! I recently got a Soundbite Pro as a gift from a friend but haven’t been using it as much. Would be curious to see if anyone (besides Fourtet) has used it outside of the DJ contest.

A nice trick I’ve found with those is to transpose up by 24st, resample and transpose back down by -24. The digital crunch generated by the process can be quite nice.

Haven’t found a way to proper clock the device without a 4x4 kick tho :confused:

@raincity i found out one of them has a faulty pad (maybe ill open it and see if if can figure out what the problem is, maybe a bad contact or something) the other one crashes randomly. Was using them this afternoon and sometimes it would work just fine. I hope to keep them both :slight_smile:

@IcaroFerre this where trusty loopers back in the time before cdj´s and such, but yes your are right about the beat detection. One thing i used to do is feed a 4/4 beat to it, and then use that tempo for the set. Sometimes its cool that things are not looping perfectly, its different with beats as it can get off the beat, but some people also are after that with loops.

I like that you can reverse the samples, loop or just trigger them one shot.

Oh yeah, totally agree. It’s a fun device but I’m still struggling a bit to find its use and purpose on my setup.
Resampling and re-pitching stuff on it is definitely fun, it’s just a shame that it makes you split the loop in half before you can do anything with it.
The filter on it is kinda cool as well.

Now that I figured the reverse thing out on the Timefactor it’s really a super fun looper to play with. I just need to practice the footswitch pressing a bit more to not mess up the groove when reversing. The reverse action is immedate and not quantized (or am I missing something again?), so if you don’t press the button perfectly in time you’ll have the loop phase out compared to whatever else is playing. You can of course use this creatively, but for certain types of music (anything that has a groove) it might just mess up your performance.

Yeah there’s no quantize on that. Your best bet is to just keep slamming the button until you get it in time. Or tweak the pitch until it syncs, like turntables.

It’s been a while since I messed around with live looping, but I still hang on to my pair of EDPs and a midi pedalboard to control them. They are missing some modern conveniences, but in terms of playability there is still nothing to equal them that I know of.

That is an idea actually. Just slamming the button repeatedly isn’t that great when you perform live. But a lot can be achieved by pressing the button in time with the groove.

Makes me wonder about effective use of cue mixing for live looping. I know DJs have been doing that for ages but when you are working with live material the formula gets much harder.
