I’ve just uploaded a little video performance that shows these kinds of oboe/bassoon/clarinet/flute kinds of timbres:
I think that these reedy, woody tones are achieved through being able to overdrive the Foundation Oscillator at different stages, starting with its wavefolder, then the resonance and input gain on Amp & Tone, then on the input of Bark Filter. From there its a combination of using the filters in Amp & Tone and Bark to shape the “body” of the sounds.
Also this piece has the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator running through Jolin Lab Agogo and Intellijel Springray to give some lovely plucked string/malleted sounds. I also just got a Modcan Dual Delay that does such a beautiful job of “glueing” the timbres together!
I may make a drier, more scientific type demonstration of how these different elements play together soon, if anyone is interested.
I also have the Complex Oscillator (mostly in my other 7u system), but I’d say that the Foundation Oscillator does have its own personality. I was actually considering selling it because it has a pretty aggressive sounding waveshaper that I’m not that into on its own, but then I got my hands on the Amp & Tone in a local sale at a very good price, and that makes all the difference in taming the Foundation Oscillator and bringing out its subtleties and gentler tones, while also pairing very very well with the Bark Filter. I’d sooner recommend the Amp & Tone over the Foundation Oscillator to go with the Bark Filter and your Harmonic and Complex oscillators. If you are needing a third oscillator it does play very nicely with them, but I’d also say that Mangrove is also a very very good companion (I have two in my other system).
