A longform (approx.50 minutes) continuous mix of instrumental minimal ambient/ambient drone music, recorded in a single take on Sunday 01 October 2023.

I recently got a small (48hp) Pod case, with the idea that I would use it as a break-out box, to free up some much-needed room in my main Palette case.

As it turns out, it’s become my main instrument - the Palette is presently languishing in a quiet corner, taking a well-earned rest, but will no doubt return to the fray in the near future.

I used a minimal amount of equipment to make this recording, the heart and soul being just an Expert Sleepers Disting mk4 to feed .wav audio samples into my new love, the rather wonderful Blukač Endless Processor (aka E.P.)

The E.P. works its own unique magic on the audio, with some limited knob-twiddling by me along the way. The audio output was saved directly to a 4ms WAV Recorder module and that is about the extent of the hardware used.

Minimal post-production (a light dusting of EQ, trimming silences from the start and end points, then limiting) was done in Audacity on Windows.

The album title, ghost echoes, is from the Oblique Strategies card I drew at the start of the session; it seemed to fit perfectly as the album’s title.

Thanks as ever to:

  • Em in Melbourne
  • Andrii (@khladomysl) of Blukač Instruments
  • and last, but by no means least, the friends I’ve made here in the monome lines community over the last 5 years or so.

Being in the very privileged position of not needing to make money from my music, ghost echoes is available to download as ‘pay what you will’ - or as I prefer to think of it, ‘free to download if you stick a 0 in the Amount field’ - from my Bandcamp page.

Thank you for reading this far; I hope you find something in the album that you like.

Morning, folx.

Just quickly hopping in before the working day rolls over me like an Acme steam roller to say a huge “thank you” for all the support and encouragement and lovely comments (here and elsewhere) for ghost echoes.

meepmeep

It’s been truly heartwarming to see and means such a lot to me - I wasn’t sure if this album might be a little too far out on the fringes for people, but I am happy to say I really misjudged that!

Thank you all, again, you’re all fab! :green_heart:
