I currently use several 1700 cases like the one the ISIM kit comes in. I’m thinking of getting a medium case for my Norns, grid, arc, organelle, usb & power, a keyboard, my organelle, and maybe my keystep. Basically everything I might need without my modular stuff.

I was thinking about writing a small app that picks compatible pelican cases for a set of gear. Does that type of thing exist?

Though Pelican cases probably offer the best protection, they’re a little too bulky and even a little heavy. I was looking for a good case solution for Norns for when I wanna throw it in a backpack, and found a couple.

The Analog Cases OP-1 case, while a little long, is the perfect width. I’m using the extra length for charger and cable. Also the foam block that came with it serves as a good divider to keep Norns from sliding.

I’m a little ashamed to admit how many hours I spent scourging Amazon for various hard cases that Norns could fit in snuggly. But I finally found this Hermit Shell: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078V1M5PQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image

The case is a little too tall, so I stuck one of the foam blocks from the OP-1 case (there were two) behind the mesh in the lid. Everything is snug.

I want to have some kind of case or sleeve for my grid that leaves the playing surface exposed. The idea being that I can handle and play the grid on uneven, rocky surfaces without worrying about scratching the enclosure.

Does anyone have something like this they are using with their grid? If so, how did you make it?

Has anyone tried with a Nintendo switch case? They’re roughly the same size as a grid.

These ones looks like they can hold the grids and the norns quite well:

wondering if there is space under norns to hide power supply? probably not?

There’s close to two inches of foam underneath it still. I don’t pack it that way, but perhaps it’s possible!

Thanks! I’m most satisfied with the little pocket for the little WiFi thingy

Searching the forum for “shield” and “case” hasn’t turned up the specific results I’m looking for since that “case” usually means the structural element that goes around the pi and Norns shield, not a carry case.

So this seemed like as good a place to ask as any: Has anyone found a nice carry case solution for a Norns shield? Perhaps there’s a GoPro case or external hard drive case that fits the dimensions well.

I have found the AmazonBasics Gopro Cases to be pretty nice and minimal. They come in 3 sizes.

Here is a photo of the small version with a Norns in it. Check the x-small dimensions they might work for shield.

The cases come with pre-cut foam. I thought I would cut it all out and replace with a sheet of foam but found it fit snug by just chopping a few bits.

Right on. Thanks for the tip.

Here’s my case. The Powercon connects to a molded 3 plug 3 prong strip that I cut and soldered to the tabs. I used liquid electrical tape to shield the contacts. I sprayed plasti-dip on the pick foam to keep it from shredding once I had everything in place.

I’ve had this set up for a few years now minus Fates. The case is not a Pelican and I do not recommend the cheap cases. The plastic has warped on the bottom and the latches are poorly constructed. The cases Harbor Freight has now are superior to this thin flimsy no name case.

Friends of Norns Fates are the mpx-8 and the usb gooseneck book light.

I just got the 4u frame and it fits perfectly in the lid for home use.

During travel I wrap everything in the little drawstring bags you get sets of pillowcases and sheets in.

i use the same solution for grid + arc + tt keyboard

Has anyone tried a grid in the Pelican 1170?

Seems like it should fit?
Interior Dimensions 10.54 x 6.04 x 3.160Inch (26.8 x 15.3 x 8.0cm)
might even be able to stack it with norns?

Picked this up, It’s a really tight fit and the 128 does not fit into the recessed area. I bet there is a slightly better keyboard case out there! so close!

@loma I also got the same hermit shell case, and it fits norns super well. can fit with the wifi adapter plugged in, and a usb cable in the top pocket, you could even fit the power brick in there if you were willing to do a little wedging… a smaller power brick would surely fit as well.

Yeah, I think that’s the hermitshell I posted higher up, and it works great for the factory Norns. I was hoping someone had spied a smaller good fit for the shield.

Found some case on AliExpress. If you want to have a really small form factor and ABS this might be for you. (https://aliexpress.com/item/4000516119686.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5e3a4c4dwDnOLL) This one is the 1813.

Snuggly Neoprene sleeve for current generation Monome Grid 128. Size is nice. Material is rather thick. Better than throwing it in your backpack as is. Worse than a nice case.

Got it from AliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001298296594.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.627b4c4dE0wPKk)

Have spent a few days trying to work out which size Peli case to go for, and can’t quite work it out…

Found a decent price on eBay and went with the Pelican 1450 to be able to keep Norns and friends together. Bit of quality time with pick and pluck foam and it’s come ok. Thanks especially to @karst for sharing their approach
