yeah - there is currently note stealing. I just went for a dead simple 16 notes overall scheme with the oldest note, on whichever synth, being stolen for the newest note. I think the 16 notes was based on a bit of experimentation to see what it could cope with, but I might be wrong since that part was done over a year ago. I can, and will, make the note stealing scheme more sophisticated - what would work better for you?

Yeah - I think the time to work on save functionality for Kria (& by extension Islands) has come - I’ll see what I can do this coming week…

that’s lovely to hear  As always I’m open to suggestions for the wish list. I obviously have that guiding philosophy and my intention is for this to be my main “instrument” (ie something I know well and can play) but other peoples thinking is always welcome

Thanks for getting back - The current is fine. I was just asking because i use Ansible Kria a lot and wondering if the note sequences i am doing in Islands would translate if i hand entered them in Ansible. I guess if there’s note stealing going on, they would play slightly different.

and the Kria saving update is in Islands too

After I updated I got a Load Fail error when starting Islands - installing Kria MIDI and rebooting Norns fixed it though.

hmm - it shouldn’t be dependent - so that might just have been intermittent or an initial start.

I’ll uninstall and reinstall later - see if I can re-create

im having an issue where the preset is saving Kria note info but not saving FM7 settings after rebooting and reloading the patch. Does the FM7 data have to be saved separately?

I’ve not added saving to the FM part yet. And I was playing with it last night and it is super irritating  so watch this space… (won’t be today though)

Ok no worries  I’ve had a few sequence freezes also in Kria when using 2 layers. Its usually after editing the second layer FM7 info then going to note info and playing with Kria settings. I can’t remember exactly each time but i know Kria isn’t fully implemented, but just thought i’d let you know.
Also i couldn’t stop meta sequencing after exiting the meta sequencing page - sometimes it continues running and also can stop the playback depending which row you hit when exiting that page. Row 7 exit seems to be trouble on that page.

I since deleted the script and data folder to start from fresh, then rebooted.
Now I just get a blank black page when i load islands up.

there are no errors in Maiden on reload but it does say

reading PMAP /home/we/dust/data/islands/islands.pmap

and that folder is empty since i deleted the contents.

ok - I’ll have a poke - I’ve only recently ventured into those pages (Kria is so deep - takes a while to learn  ). Hopefully relatively trivial bugs

ugh - will try and reproduce. Day jobbing until later but should get a chance to look this evening at that

I think the pmap thing is a red herring since I’ve not got one

There was an odd race condition were somehow it started trying to display the grid before Kria was loaded - not quite sure how that is happening but guarded against it (ie the grid redraw just waits until Kria is loaded instead of failing)

Update to get the latest version that hopefully guards against that

also fixed - there was a stupid typo!

Ok great, thanks for the update, i’m back up and running again. I updated Norns to the latest version yesterday and all seems well in the parameters section. One way I got around the FM7 saving is to save it separately in the pset in parameters and save the Kria sequence separately via the glyph. I’m really enjoying the tones you can get out of FM7 especially the control you now have with envelopes. Looking forward to what you have planned for the modulation. It would be great to have that sort of control on looping envelopes / lfos to modulate that matrix.

this is 2 tracks of FM7

I am still get issues with meta sequencing so stopped using it for the moment, It works fine when you first go on that page, but is still hit and miss, especially when you exit that meta page. After exiting I am unable to get back in. I’m holding bottom right and pressing row 7 immediately above to exit. I’ll try again today, maybe my update didn’t work

Nice.

Saving of the current layer states will be coming soon - certainly this weekend. I’m a massive fan of envelope modulation, I wish more synths included it, but it will certainly be in Islands

I’ll sit and have a play with the meta part myself and try and root out some of the bugs - they’ll all be trivial typo stuff - just that I’ve not used that part much myself yet

Hello,
Just saying that I have installed it yesterday and played a bit with it and this is DEEP!

Still grasping the surface but I have a first comment/bug:

I have a 4 brightness level monome and this reduce the feedback on the monome itself, in the sense that I have either no light for low numbers of the parameters to 3 levels of light.
Is there a way you can update this to be able to be used for old monome?
KRIA has his already implemented (you can choose which monome you use in terms of brightness levels)

Thanks a lot in advance.

I’d not thought about that :frowning: I’l have a look and a think. It’s probably not my highest priority but I’ll see what I can do

Thanks,
It is not impossible to play but you have to look at the norns screen all the time which tends to distract you from the actual performance.

Hopefully it would not be too difficult.
Thanks a lot anyway

In Torii i made an led level array/table and “variable-ized” all the led brightness calls.

Still not sure what levels work best for the 4-step brightness grids, but that’s one solution.

added the Kria changes (see Kria thread) - think it’s better

ratcheting removed for the moment

still not happy about repeated triggers of the same note - doesn’t work properly

Updated with latest Kria - timing, ratcheting and repeat notes all working now
