you’re gonna have a bad time with that rene if isms is a fully metal case (which i think it is).

Ah, that’s a good point. I was planning on keeping isms horizontal and making the Move vertical, so I thought, put the René in the horizontal case, but isms is very shallow and quite metal. Good catch, thanks.

Looking more at my space, I think I could actually have both cases horizontal, so it won’t matter so much which case holds which modules. I shall rearrange.

Hardest part about all of this is deciding what sequence to get things in. Of the sequencer-like things I’ll probably start with the monome modules. Could be I won’t end up wanting René after all.

if you’re starting with no or very few modules, imo it’s better to plan purchases by voice and expand from there. filling a virtual rack full of modules is a fun way to cure boredom, but it rarely ends up translating to actual wants and needs (unless you just want and need to collect gear, of course).

That’s why I am going to solder a Befaco Even VCO this weekend. Next are the CVPal, and the NS1nanobridge. The NS1nanosynth is a very simple voice, fun way to get started anyway (and the possibility of Arduino hacking is a plus).

When I get the refund processed for the Roli Seaboard (faulty hardware, failed twice!) I will spring for the Linnstrument, at which point the 4VOX is going to start looking very appealing.

The Move case will get filled before I get around to thinking about the isms case.

just arrived and loaded up!

congrats to monome and mannequins for building a fantastic case.

Looks fantastic!! I’m totally jealous. Post a video once you get it patched up and making some sounds!

Is this a known issue with Rene and metal cases?

I wanted to use Rene and Isms as the basis for my first Eurorack system so if this is true then I’m gonna have to look into another case.

I didn’t know about any Rene / Metal Case issue. Could you elaborate or link me to a pertinent discussion, please? I have 2 Renes and various cases and I’ve had times when they seemed fine and other times when too unpredictable to use…

yes. just to be clear, the issue is that you’ll short your connection to the module if you’re touching a piece of metal in the case with your other hand. for rene, this might not be a huge problem-- it depends on how much you plan to be interacting with the touch plates and if you’re cognizant of where your hands are. this issue is more prominent in the pressure points module.

it may also depend on the power supply in your case. i experienced this issue back when i had a doepfer suitcase.

wow, that looks fantastic. very much looking forward to seeing/hearing what you make with it. and thank you so much for helping us make this happen!

Are you happy with the double Mangrove? I’ve been wondering what sort of 1+1=3 magic that combo creates.

happy to support people who create interesting and useful things!

two mangroves go well together. they can be very musical or chaotic, and sound good when cross modulated. sometimes it can be work to dial in specific sounds, but that’s where utility modules become most useful, especially cold mac. if you have one and are considering getting another, i recommend it, especially if you have the other two mannequins modules.

in terms of a chaos generator, do you think the pittsburgh game system might fill that category? i see one of its modes is a randomizer…
