Failed to log in here for about two months because, as I’m certain many people noticed, Jamuary is a lot of work. Nevertheless, here are 31 videos of live modular performances:
My notes:
- Nothing shakes the kinks out of the ol’ workflow like dailies, and I’m very glad that I was able to keep going for the whole month. Zero shame to anybody who wasn’t, my sleep hygiene is still recovering.
- my highest-falutin’ concept was to divide the month into 3 roughly equal periods focusing on 3 different systems. This worked out quite well! I put out an EP of material from the first 10 days, called Instrument 1, and I have a fairly good idea about what EPs 2 and 3 will be called.
- some exceptions to the three instruments: this tiny system from day 21 built around turning Katowice into a fed-back self-resonating filter, and some brief Buchla interludes on day 25 and day 29 as I visited and explored the 200/200e system at MESS.
- there are so many fantastic artists out there and it’s a privilege to get to hear what you’re all doing. Thank you to everyone who put yourself out there; I’ve spent a lot of time in my life being too shy or uncertain of myself to do so. If you’re reading this and you’re in that position: there’s no better community to start in.
Great fun, glad I did it, exhausting but worthwhile exercise.
