That’s how I’m approaching the challenge as well—a chance to iterate, to practice, to not feel as “precious” about sharing ideas and things-in-process. lovely track!

This is an excerpt of a longer jam from today. 1n/3n/5n of just friends slightly de-tuned and put through nearness.

A playful take on a slightly jazzy loop. First takes.

#Jamuary2023 Ep. 3: CP300 Ambient Waltz

I love waltzes and today is a good excuse to play in 3/4 as it’s January 3rd. E-flat minor. 52BPM. Yamaha CP300 solo with manual shimmer reverb. I want to think the piece is in the style of Harold Budd’s piano work.

This one isn’t a Genuary entry, which is a bummer since the theme is “Glitch Art”, which is dear to my heart. Alas, I didn’t manage to finish the glitching code I was working on. Maybe tomorrow.

as promised, I iterated on yesterday’s idea. The canons should be more audible in this setup. Two-thirds of the way through I eliminate one voice and take a “performance” approach to the remaining two.

Yeah new year new BPM; 137 has started to feel lazy so turning Digitone to 145.

Also SunVox on Android filtering, flangering and compressing plus a Zoom H2n for bonus compression; a convoluted setup – there is so much to explore.

some asyncronous loops today. but now I realize that I had wanted to use a microshifter for extra super duper cocteau twins sounds. shoot.

Less drone, more weird this time.

1: Strega/Mimeophon/Wobblebox, sampled and looped in Bitwig Grid. The LFO that drives the sample position also fires triggers that clocks 0-Ctrl, which sequences everything else. The main pitch output is quantized to 1/5 octaves in Teletype.

2: Shapeshifter, processed in stereo with Warps & its own folder, Natural Gate, MF-104S, Koszalin, Valhalla Delay

3: Odessa, Blades & Fog Convolver

4: Beads, Chipcrusher, Arturia Filter MS-20, Stardust 201

I had a blast doing this after work today!

I did something I’ve never ever done before! *spoiler: I sang!

Eurorack exploration using a few different oscillators in a feedback loop. Also using hard and soft sync on two of the oscillators in the feedback path. A Doepfer a-196 PLL and a BBD also come into play. A wonky LFO and Maths as almost in time clocks. Some noise into a band pass filter and a phase modulated filter for “percussion.” January 3rd check!

Day 3: Droning with the Siren, while the vhikk is playing a melodic sequence. I’d actually never tried to sequence the vhikk melodically, since it doesn’t have any inputs marked 1v/oct. As far as I can tell, the BASIS tracks OK with the attenuverter at max.

I’m primarily playing the attenuator for the vhikk voice, and adjusting its pattern length.

Welp, my cat chewed through a few important cables that I don’t have the money to replace at the moment, so Jamuary just went out the window. Thankfully nothing was powered, so the bad boy is fine.

I did get a couple of good ones in on those first couple of days. I think what I’ll do instead is go through the twenty or thirty tapes of material I have recorded and upload the choicest gems I come across…gemuary!

Day 3

More Noise Engineering weirdness and out of control resonances. With so little time to work on each track, I’m really enjoying the need to simply run with the first idea that comes to mind and see how far it can go.

Day 3 was my first jamuary with norns (mlre), but certainly won’t be my last. Probably won’t repost all my jamuarys (jaumuaries?) here, but I’ll repost favorites.

Gonna try do as many jams as I can this month to try deep dive on my Serge. This might be a good practice for me as I tend to stew on patches for days trying to improve it and really it never really gets better anyway, half the time I don’t even wind up recording it when it’s actually at it’s best.

This one was pretty fun…

was going to do another monomachine+digitakt jam but my norns is conked out and I don’t want to troubleshoot right now. I shifted over to the OP1 and made this thing. Could be mixed better but I have to go to bed! Jam down!

More sequencing of hardware with a generative Pure Data patch. Not sure why I’d never done more of this before… it’s turning out to be a very fruitful combo.

Not anything I’d want to listen to much of, but a useful exercise and practice with Stages, as well as the act of knowing when something isn’t going to get any better
