Here’s an album by me and my colleague. We have access to a nice grand piano and have been toying around with an idea of doing something experimental with it and finally got a chance to play around with it.
The source material for our record was created by feeding sounds through a prepared Steinway D Grand Piano with a surface transducer and recording the outcome with a pair of PZM microphones attached to the grand piano. We wanted to find out how the different sounds conducted through the strings of the grand piano are shaped in new, unknown directions and what kind of results each artist ends up with when using this same material. We both created 15 min pieces out from the source material.
