I’ve recently bought JF just because of this integration, will give feedback once it has arrive and had enough time messing with it :cat: Hopefully there are no cases of “bricking” the stuff with firmware updates?..

hmm - the all caps warning doesn’t put me off as much as the latter bit - the confusion about JF restarting, and THEN also restarting the synth? So 2x restart? Not precisely clear about that instruction.

i installed the beta last night. no problems whatsoever:

  1. a few seconds after the firmware WAV finishes, JF flashes lights and returns to normal behaviour (some slow envelopes).

  2. turn off the modular

  3. unplug cable from sound source

  4. unplug cable from JF

  5. turn on modular

  6. enjoy

As I understand it it is not an instruction but a description: When the update is finished JF automatically switches to normal behavior (“restarting”) then you switch off your case, disconnect your iPhone or whatever and restart the case…

Gooootcha. Good to know!

Hi @Galapagoose ,

I am sure this is on your radar, BUT, it would be great/important to hear from you directly on the issue of the potential JF ability to brick other modules via the -12V coimng out of the JF “RUN” input.

In this thread on Muffs:

https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=170641&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=50

some are already suggesting cutting traces and adding components on JF to “fix” this problem!

It seems that some first hand assessment of the situation from you, and perhaps suggestions on what to do, or not to do would help to clear the otherwise rising, murky waters of doubts/worries among the Jf owners.

I LOVE this module, and can’t wait for the proper TT implementation release, but am feeling disheartened by the comments and reports coimng out from the users.

Very sincerely,
p.

Just to be clear. I did understand what’s to do, just gave my (personal) quick impression about the instructions after going through them.

Btw, is there a download link I missed?

Kudos this really looks amazing

Can’t wait to try it out. Is the firmware/audio file link up somewhere? Will happily help beta test too if extra testers are needed

Please note the beta firmware is linked in the top post now. Please let me know any and all bug reports. The firmware is very close to a final version though I know there’s a few small bugs and crash conditions to be worked out. Your feedback is much appreciated!

(Response to the somewhat OT ‘RUN’ jack issue forthcoming)

Thank you for all the work you’ve put into this and for making this amazing module even more interesting. This is very exciting!
If I may ask, where can I find a link to the teletype firmware with support for Just Type?

Great modules all round from Mannequins. Still, this comment seems a bit cavalier and dismissive.

I don’t believe it was intentional.

Crashes for me while moving intone knob in synthesis mode. I have to go back and forth with the knob but it always crashes eventually.
also getting crashes with this script after 30 secs or so. mode transient -sound
jf.mode 1
jf.vox 1 n rrand 12 24 v 8
adding another script cause the crash to happen faster.

No intention to be dismissive, I explicit meant I’m dealing with the issue! Just trying to keep this thread on topic.

Link above updated to include the teletype.hex file.

Been really delving this week with the original firmware; can’t wait to try the new stuff tonight!

Stunning!

So far, fiddling with intone in jf.rmode crashes often for me.

I got to play w/ the update for a few hours last night. Seems to unlock tons of awesomeness!

I should have taken better notes, but a few issues off the top of my head

I also ran into the same issues in the synthesis mode where adjusting curve would lock up the device and emit a high pitch whine.

I had a confusing time updating the the run mode w/ teletype. Sending the unit JF.RMODE 1 didn’t seem to have any effect nor did switching back to JF.RMODE 0. If I plugged a cable into Run I did seem to be able to adjust Run w/ JF.RUN X. But this adjustment wouldn’t engage unless I plugged in a cable to the unit.

Something I was curious about, when the curve setting would lock the device in synthesis mode, my recollection is that teletype would also get locked, is that expected?

Regarding the upgrade, I didn’t have any luck until I plugged in my laptop (a few attempts into trouble shooting), then it worked just fine

thanks for all the work on this!

Thank you! Everything went well with the update, used my mac’s audio out, playing the file with VLC.

In terms of things to report, the main one is I no longer can use the USB stick I was using to load and copy teletype scenes. I was using a v1.21 firmware that @tehn had modified with some delay, though, so that explains why it’s not working for me any more.

I got a few lockups of teletype when trying some of the JT commands in both synthesis/rhythms modes. JF.VOX tended to do that, though a few times it depended on the setting of the MODE switch (cycle seemed to lock things up a lot more often).

I’m also unsure what are the limits when setting voltage with JF.VTR. Not sure if some of the lockups might have happened because of me setting a certain voltage higher than what JF expects.

Will keep on exploring Just Type further today. Again, thank you very much for all of this!

First off, these new functions are awesome! There is a ton of potential in integrating the TT and JF. Really cool!! Thanks for all your work!

As far as issues go that I found. I also ran into the crashes in synth mode, lots of different scenarios. Faster clocks triggering JF.VOX did it and knob turns (seemingly any of them) would cause the crash/high pitch whine. Another thing I noticed which may be intentional??? Is that in plume mode the envelope response is different if you turn on the run mode digitally rather than with a dummy cable. I was able to get three different envelopes, the original (with a dummy cable only) which is quite short, a rather long attack and decay with JF.RMODE 1 and no dummy cable and then a third shape kind of in between the two with .RMODE on and a dummy cable inserted. I found this to be pretty useful.

Thanks for the reports! If you could please give a detailed description of mode settings & panel control positions, plus the TT commands you were sending at the time that would be the best help in terms of bug-fixing.

Regarding sending ‘wrong’ values, everything is clamped / scaled in JF so that shouldn’t be the cause of the crash.
