Kria is a fantastic sequencer - I’ve got some more plans for it. I’m just getting another script that uses it (and that I’ve posted videos of, like a year ago) that mixes FM7, a programmer for FM7, Earthsea and Kria - I’ve joined a scratch orchestra so will hopefully be improvising with that setup.

However I want to add crow support so you can have channels routed to either midi OR modular, bring it up to date with latest Kria play modes (random etc). I have an idea to add a little more granularity on the probability (push the nearest 25% button on that page and then turn a knob to alter the probability within that band - altering the brightness of the grid button). (it will really work as a sync hub I think - bringing modular/midi sequencing to one control point - especially if link support gets added to Norns at some point)

I also want to add a step mode (something that doesn’t really work on the module) so it steps to the next position only when a midi gate or crow gate is received - and note length is either open gate until next step or a fixed controllable length (need to fiddle with that)

Anyway - actively working on this again (astonishing how not needing to worry about income/feed my family/keep a roof over our heads helps - even though I’m incredibly busy again since I’m working I’m doing loads more) and glad people are finding it useful - I’m using it loads too!

Islands, maybe?

It’s already pretty cool!

yes the other script is “Islands” - hopefully first release- able version should be next week (since I’m going to need it depending on timing of first rehearsal  )

Super excited to hear that crow support is coming.

so just to note - I haven’t actually got it yet and who knows what world shipping times will be like with the current virus situation… BUT I have worked out what the support will be like and it will go in as soon as I have my 𝚐̶𝚛̶𝚞̶𝚋̶𝚋̶𝚢̶ very very clean (because of coronavirus precautions) hands on one!

It appears i have an issue with a new install of Kria, pulled from github - as soon as i start adding different notes to the default sequence, the root note is transposed…

Steps to reproduce:

  • select Kria from scripts menu
  • add a couple triggers on track 1
  • go to notes sequence and add in a couple different notes
  • observe the root note being transposed

Any ideas what’s going wrong?

Have you got MIDI going IN to your Norns? That will transpose the sequence (I think you can set the channel in parameters?)

So exciting to read all these additions you’re planning! This is reason enough for me to keep norns and crow. Being able to use kria on a keyboard and modular at the same time is such a dream, especially with your proposed step mode!

I would to invest in a Yamaha TG33 at some point, just for this usage.

Maybe an option to use one of crow’s inputs to transpose the sequence could be good to explore at some point?

More than happy to be a beta tester for any updates that are made

Ahh that sounds possible! I had to rearrange and redo the cables for my setup thanks to COVID remote working… still getting used to it, ironing out some gremlins… will report back if not the case

cool. That has got me before & I implemented the thing

good progress on Islands (which includes Kria) today. Ton of things I want to change/add and I also need to learn to play the thing…

hopefully a first release in the next few days though

It’s a multi-timbral version of the FM7 engine right now. 4 ‘layers’ each playable with earthsea and also corresponding to a Kria track. There is a programmer for the FM engine too (not in this video) and softcut looper (which I could do with figuring a way to avoid routing the sequenced notes into)

another quick (I say quick - it has taken me most of the day…) update. Saving stuff! get it now while it’s fresh

beautiful, thank you!

question: do the default Norns Collections save this data as well? just curious how the Collections relate to saving in Kria Midi, or if they do at all.

I couldn’t see how to tie it into the Norns presets so for the moment it’s independent.

Got it. No problem, was just curious.
Thanks for this!

Fixed a couple of small bugs on the pattern pages

Not sure if this is a bug or not but when I use my Digitone with Kria Midi it will not play midi channel 1 when I have it selected in the params. When I switch my first track to midi channel 2 it plays midi track one on my Digitone. My Digitone has all 4 tracks set to match the midi channel of each respective track.

Hmm yeah - that certainly sounds like a bug. Will try and look this evening

just had a play with Ableton (& no reason to assume Digitone or Ableton have anything odd about their MIDI implementation). For me it all corresponds.

HOWEVER

I do notice that the durations don’t retrigger subsequent notes sometimes - and as I dig into it there is something wrong with my clock/midi out implementation! so currently note durations are too long (which causes weirdness). Depending on how your target synth is setup - this may result in all kinds of odd things OR silence. ugh

ALSO I found the bug in the meta stuff - it falls off the end of the meta pattern and stays there.

It’s too late now to fix either of them - will look tomorrow
