Agreed. I think Kunaki is a very cool service, but the paper used on the LCRP does make it feel a little diy’d. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I think the art here would look real cool on something glossier/higher res. A gatefold with the two versions you have would be pretty sweet!

Actually, I am just looking for somebody to make the bare CD, the cover will be printed separately and hand-assembled by us. I do have a lead to somebody who’s got a silkscreening workshop, maybe they can help to silkscreen the thing. That would be amazing. But I can’t promise anything yet.

Updates!
I have a final tracklist and I’d like everybody to look over it.

First of all big question: capitalization. We usually write everything lowecase, but that’s kind of a personal decision, so I am wondering: does anybody have a strong opinion on how their names should be spelled regarding upper-lower case?

This is what I have right now, please let me know if anything is wrong or there’s pieces missing!

Drift of Signifieds – threnody optigon remix
New Tendencies – unsinnig refund remix
Sunbeamer – dread
Knob Alchemist – threnody
Joule – love song
onewayness – lullaby
Zedkah – unsinnig
Peksy – disintegration
Midcentury Modular – love song rhythmic phase
kurodama – for ny
ubumaic – loopaby

Happy to be decaptialised and fit in with the graphic approach.
I had titled my track unsinning- slight difference adding the extra letter.

Sorry missed that bit! Will correct it!

Here’s a little update on the covder design. It’s coming along nicely. Unfortunately the silkscreening option won’t work this time, but we have other options.

I prefer lowercase for onewayness, so that works!

Excited to see how this is shaping up…

I do not understand how the colors of the original record and remix work so well together but they look incredible together!

Haha I have no idea either! I defintely didn’t choose those based on the original!

Also fine with decapitalization if it fits the layout better!

Some news

First of all, mastering is almost done, @Simeon did an outstanding job we think, but you’ll hear soon for yourself.

I also have the cover almost ready to go to the printer. If you want to give it a look and help me spot typos, here it is:

In case you are wondering about it: the cover will be printed on a yellowish paper, so the final chromatic result will be different from what you see above.

I’ve also got a text I want to put on the inside, which is this one:

in 2015 we made an album, it was called the malosco sessions and we printed it on vinyl. 4 years later, we decided to bring it back.

initially it was supposed to be a mix of unreleased materials, remixes of the album tracks (made by ourselves) and maybe some collaborations. The more we thought about it, the more we realized that we wanted it to be a dialogue, a cultural exchange, an experiment in mutation and musical gene manipulation. so we did a risky thing. we went to llllllll.co and just posted an open call for remixes. the rules were few and simple: pick a track, do whatever you want, but use the vinyl itself as the source material.

we didn’t want a classic remix album. no putting kick drums under the track and calling it a day. to our great satisfaction, we got back a bunch of weird, experimental and daring tracks, which took our own creations to a whole new level.

the risk had been worth the while.

so here it is. our very first remix album, by a serendipitously hand-selected group of electronic musicians: the ironaugust sessions*!

if you’re interested in knowing more about how this album came along and read some of the artists’ notes, head over to kvsu.net/ironaugust

(*) the name is a silly pun on the Italian “Ferragosto”. Ferro=Iron, Agosto=August. Ferragosto is a holiday in Italy, the name does not have anything to do with Iron though, but stems from the Latin “feriae Augusti”, which might be translated to “August rest”. Incidentally the festivity is always on the 15th of August, which was also the deadline we had picked for the remixes.

Lat but not least, we have a new kvsu newsletter, so if anybody feels like getting updates from us (usually not more than 3-4 mails a year) here you can sign up:

We’re using Buttondown, which is a very no-nonsense and privacy friendly newsletter service, focused on writing, not marketing.
So far our newsletter has been mostly devoted to informing people about our live gigs, but we want to extend beyond that and add more content for non-locals.

It all looks great and reads well - nice one. Looking forward to the final results very much!

It is all looking really great. Been a real joy to be part of this and really like the way you curated and guided the project.
One thing, I cant get the kvsu.net/ironaugust link to work. Is this because it isn’t up yet?

best,

Richard

Yes, sorry, didn’t mention that, but the page is not online yet!
I’ll post something as soon as I’ve got it online!

Thanks for the tip re: Buttondown. I’ve been using Mailchimp and don’t love it, so think I’m gonna try it out.

We also used to run our newsletter through Mailchimp before swtiching. It was ok at the beginning but the marketing-related bloat at one point really wasn’t sustainable anymore.
Buttondown is pretty new, so it has some rough edges, but if you want something minimal, focused and bloat-free than I can really recommend it. I hope it doesn’t get stumped into corporate mush like everything else, though I guess it will eventually happen.
