I picked up the Landscape Allflesh DIY kit at KnobCon over the summer but just got around to making them yesterday evening. I only just started playing around with them, but I wanted to hear how the rest of you have made use of them within your systems! These seem like a really cool tool, but I

I’ve only really tried doing rhythmic modulation patching from Maths so far, I’m hoping to get more into it in the next couple days.

Also - have you all noticed the signal strength going waaay down when patching through Allflesh? How, if at all, are you mitigating that (or is it just poor soldering on my part)?

We have no crossover in our modules, but if that were my set-up, I’d try one in the output of a cycling maths channel & one into the fm input of braids. P.S. you’re correct about a weaker signal level (although as a caveat, my soldering probably isn’t great!)

That was the first thing I did! I’m hoping to use it similarly within Cold Mac to pan between patches.

I don’t have Allflesh (yet), but you definitely need to bear in mind that your flesh have way more resistance than a cable (which has virtually none), so it is sort of like always applying an attenuator.

I used to do a lot of circuit bending and often those sorts of mods would use body contact points. Licking your fingertips can make a huge difference for those! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve yet to build mine, but a thing I’ll try right away is using them as feedback injection points in complex filtering/fm patches. I bet it can get pretty interesting with a handful of inputs and outputs

this thread reminded me how cool the Allflesh concept is, so once I have my newly ordered ones soldered up I’ll post something. My first ideas are between Morphagene and Tides, especially to patch the CV out from the Morphagene to Tides Parasite (along with self patching) in the random generator mode.

I bought some banana jacks and “adapted” the allflesh for my Sidrax. Myself and a few others find that they are a little fragile, so if you’re going to be doing heavy performance I recommend reinforcing them with some 2-part epoxy or something to keep them sturdy.

Could someone explain this to me being not very experienced with modular and voltages.

I am trying to find out if theres a way i can place these into some kind of mother module to play samples and synth in a small case.

I found the laddik trigger to midi, from there could go midi to cv (2hp)
Silly? Maybe but less hp and more open to different things than a dedicated controller.

So i was kind of warned that for selective CV like triggering slices these would be too inconsistent. Would the one pad to offset while touched change this situation?

A misconception I had with the Allflesh was that they could be used to trigger gates on their own (i.e. I just touch one and there’s a gate). They are really more about using your body as a patch cable, so allowing current to pass through your body. You need to be touching two, an output and input, for them to work. At least, that was my experience.

The idea of touching an offset with one hand and playing gates with the other would work, though as others have said your body does attenuate the signal, so you may need higher than normal offset or a sensitive gate. I also tried tucking a patch cable into my armpit, which didn’t really work. From experience, I can tell you to NOT put a cable with signal into your mouth and then try to play the allflesh. That hurt :slight_smile: not too bad, but like licking a fresh 9 volt.

It might be fun to pass current through you into a second person then back into the modular. Unless that would also hurt.

to reiterate what @xenus_dad said, this isn’t really how allflesh works. if you’re trying to tap something to trigger a sample there are much better options. pressure points, tetrapad, or even ears would give you the triggers/gates you need, with the added bonus of generating a bunch of other cv signals you could use at the same time. connect any one of those to, for example, a phonogene and you’d be all set.

Yet with ears i would have just one input. Kinda hard to compose with.

Probably i should ditch the idea but having a 10 pad play module in 8hp (ladik trigger to midi) would be very cool. Since i have an offset i could use (8nu8r) i am tempted.

But even if it could work i dont see a way to dial in a pad to a slice or is the chromatic notation like that ladik does (think a midi keyboard) somehow automatically choosing next slice for next key/pad?
It also has velocity wich could lead to the assumption with always max velocity it would stabilize the Voltage?

If you say that offset trick would work, i would place a pad into one the 8nu8r keep it touched and the attenuator maxed and should be able to play usable gates? Again confusing as the 8nu8r i think acts as offset only without input…

But if ditching, back to ears, would this work with slice points in a sampler aswell (w/) or rather only with soundfiles (like tiptop) and how would one while playing vary wich slices and/or sounds are triggered with only one pad?
I see lot of other potential for ears ofc, like getting in my epiano audio or env follow, but for sample playing i dont get it

You cannot reliably use allflesh pads to trigger things via CV. Your body is the voltage source or you conduct electricity from another source through your body into the pad. You will get varying voltages as you touch. They are really intended to add a non-predictable/varying voltage source that a patch cable cannot offer.

I would explore sequencers that you can play instead. You want something that stores voltages, (consistently) which can be played. I’ve recommended it before, but the Korg SQ-1 is really close to what you’re looking for. If you want to do this in the case, look for something similar. Tetrapad is a good option.

Not as sexy as the Allflesh but if I’m honest I think the Allflesh are a better concept than reality.

Thanks guys… i think i ve been warned enough now to use the allflesh. Really too bad. I did see a video of it working on the OD forum playing the 301 by Kel. But yes it must have been soundfiles never slices/cv.

I just wonder what independent module would take the role of the gate inputs of the er 301 and transfer that usage to a small sample player.
Maybe not possible…

Same question about your suggestions. I was looking into manual gates before landscape even but how with those modules would one sum the individual outs to insert into only one cv and gate jack on small samplers/players?
