Whoa, I’ve never actually heard of that doomsday cult before – seems like great inspiration.

I’m working on a collection of sounds that capture possible moments in our species’ future after some great environmental cataclysm – bleak but looking towards the future. Coming to terms with our possible futures has been the impetus for the whole project.

I’ve also been reading a bit of Ernest Becker’s work on death which creates a meta loop in the act of creativity (if you believe his thesis, that is).

Anyhow, this track is the first on that theme – minimal noise-y sounds made from what’s left of us!

This has promise, methinks.
Working in the All Things Lorre Mill thread but maybe worthy of universal exposure?
Long version later, maybe… This is first 5 mins live.

All sound sources and clocking from Lorre Mill Double Knot and Keyed Mosstone. Clock modulation from NE Integra Funkitus. Mosstone goes through Morphagene. Maths, DK, modulate time, space, etc…

This morning Mr @robinrimbaud posted a reel for the Morphagene & suggested people make music with it

So I did

Ambient textures abound

Now that’s a wild ride indeed! Intense. Delighted to hear it offered such inspiration!

How does that happen?

I’ve always found the classical particle synthesis techniques in Curtis Roads’ Microsound fascinating to read about, and I’ve spent some various time making my own implementations in Max and other computer environments, so I thought it would be fun to create crude versions of them with the modular and use them as fodder for the Morphagene, for granularization, iteration, and further composition.

Here’s a video of the results with pulsar, glisson, and trainlet synthesis:

Microsound Workshop with DPO, QPAS, and Morphagene

and the resulting Morphagene Reel will shortly be available for download at freesound (once it passes their moderation process, hopefully in the next day or so).

Enjoy!

Threnody. Second piece for Mike McGrath.

Amongst other machinations, ER-101 clocked by tELHARMONIC N OUT > Belgrad > Atten/Mixer

DPO the sole oscillator, fed into QPAS.

label decided to release all the old tapes on bandcamp? maybe i got an email and it just didn’t register.

not a problem or anything, its a free download of a very weird slab of sound that i didn’t expect to ever hear again

there was an A side too but i guess that one is properly ephemeralized

 I can only partially relate. I recently unearthed a box of 4-Track cassettes that I recorded back in college. Some of it was enjoyable but other bits I was happy would never leave that box in the garage.

I’m just curious, when you come across old pieces like that do you find yourself reliving the time when you recorded it or can you get a fresh perspective and hear it like someone else had made it?

a practice run for a coffee shop performance back in November of 2017. It’s 6335 (three of us)

Hi all,

I want to thank @DoS for the invite here, I only heard about it for the first time today. Hopefully I’m posting this in the right place!

I’m from the UK originally, and have been making electronic music since 1992. I’ve been a full time mastering engineer the last decade, and have probably met some of you before in various online places!

These days my main interest is the acoustic guitar and Folk music (I’m crazy about The Incredible String Band the last few years), but I am still into all the synthy toys and get to work on a lot of electronic music for my job.

Anyway, just a quick intro and I hope to contribute something positive here, it really does look like a cool and inclusive space.

To leave you with a little something, here is the recent début release from our new project Sulis Noctis, which is me, and Phil & Layla Legard from Hawthonn. It’s a cover of an old Clive Palmer folk track, with a lovely ambient remix from my good friend Matt Hillier (Ishq). It’s a “pay what you like” so you can download or stream for nothing, but any funds received will be given directly to The British Wildlife Rescue Centre charity.

Much love,

Gregg

Nice mood, i like how you captured the acoustic fret / string sound so close and prominent in the mix. Nice vocals and overall production, thumbs up and ++ kudos on the charity model (instant purchase) !

Thank you @BURG that is very kind of you!

I’m still learning as I go with the recording, I have nice mics recently (pair of KM84s from 1977) but not a lot of experience in using them and feel things were maybe too closely miced (or with strings that were too new), however lots of people have said the same as you, that they liked that I didnlt remove the sqeaks etc cos it gives it a more live feel.

All recorded, mixed and mastered by me here in Paris, except for the vocals and synths (I think Phil was using MaxMSP for the synthy stuff). Pretty happy with how it turned out. We have two original tracks ready to go as well, but just trying to find a label for them as we’d like them on a slab of 7" vinyl if possible!

You definitely captured the folk vibe with that rough edge, 100%. It sits very well in the mix (listening in my trusted monitors).

I think listening to your own heart is more important than thinking in any commercial aspect when mixing. I have always found that method, eg make yourself happy first the most rewarding.

I wish you all the best of luck!

Thank you. Yes, gonna keep on keeping on, have lots of ideas I want to try and get down this year. recently bought a drum machine and synth for the first time in years, so I can try to do a lot of it by myself at home, laying down backing tracks to record the acoustic over etc.

Still looking for a nice analogue polysynth or plugin version, probably go for Uhe Diva. Really want an OB-6 but don’t think I could justify the price for my limited needs.

PS: Where do I see my “Trust” score? Can’t seem to find it on my profile. Be nice to see it change as I keep participating!
