thank you so much! i followed the “blind” recording process from a few disquiet junto projects back, not hearing anything until it was all finished. the field recordings and little harp plucks, run through the modular, sometimes resemble mlrv clicks, sometimes old, crinkled tape; pleasant discontinuities.

much of the single-track-at-a-time process was about leaving space for things to happen once assembled. just holding the harp and remaining still.

Why not. I’ve had a monome for years, but only recently did I decide to sit down and learn to actually, you know, program it. It’s being used to control some simple MAX patches; combine that with a guitar, a looping pedal, a filter and a bit crusher, and you get something along these lines:

@tehn and @kelli_cain: This is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for this wonderful and inspiring video. I love the quiet atmosphere and your total understatement :slight_smile: This makes it honest, human and touching. I also love the way you perform your setlist, changing between modular/acoustic instruments/vocals and apps. It has electronic deepness and analogue warmth. The whole set is showing a great stylistic variety without loosing the personal handwriting plus it’s very musical! I love it!

@kza thank you for the very kind words! it’s wonderful to play in small rooms to tiny audiences. (but with loud speakers!) we feel incredibly fortunate to have had good hosts and talented people with great cameras willing to put in the effort.

we’ll try to make more time for music in the future.

so, just a little note to say we’ve just released the soundtrack to a performance/soundwalk thing we made in 2014 " A Hollow Body " - was the first project the Aleph got a proper outing on :slight_smile:
currently available at bandcamp (our preferred option :slight_smile: )

first modular track: white whale sequencing a microbrute alongside a pocket piano, all through block party. half digital, half tape – natural tape delay provides phasing around middle.
