Innsport '86 - Repairer of Reputations:

Hi All,

I wanted to share a synth album I recently put out. I tracked down a number of 80s synths, samples and rack effects to create, what I hope was an authentic sounding soundtrack to a fake film.

I used tools that were available at the time. In particular, I was interested in the crossover from synthesizers to samplers, and how they intermingled in commercial music at this moment in time.

“Innsport” in the name of fictional town I created for fake film’s setting. I imagined that the financiers of this film were still slightly afraid of getting sued by August Derleth and Arkham House, who owned the rights to lovso they opted for a slight variation on Innsmouth.

As for the plot. I think you can ascertain much of it from the song titles, but it’s a bit like The Shadow Over Innsmouth , mixed with elements from Dead and Buried , The Fog , Messiah of Evil , Prince of Darkness and Silent Hill .

Instruments used on this recording: Ensoniq EPS-M, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Ensoniq Mirage, Ensoniq SQ-80, Oto BIM, Roland Juno 106, Roland JV-1080 (downsampled through 12 bit ADCs and DACs, because… '86), Make Noise Shared System, Orthogonal Devices ER-101, Dusty Strings Hammered Dulcimer, EMU Emulator 4, Koma Field Kit FX, Kawai K3, Yamaha SPX 90, Valhalla Delay, Behringer Model D, Behringer Neutron, Behringer VC-340, THC Syncussion, Elta Polivoks, Korg DVP-1

Very excited to announce my first ‘official’ video for my new album. It’s the song ‘Violins’ and I managed to get permission to use footage from Douglas Gordon’s ‘The End of Civilisation’. Felt Film in Toronto did the editing based on my notes.

After years of goofing around I finally broke through and finished a song, lastly overthrowing the numbing perfectionism… The album is going to be finished by the end of the month!
Here is some seemingly lines untypical acid techno:

and some footage from today

Hi all,

Let’s use this thread to share our self-produced releases. I’ll start with an album I just published on bandcamp and would love to get your precious feedbacks:

“A prison with no walls” by Kabuki Erotika is available on bandcamp now! Experimental and fully analog electronic music (moog sounds with techno and ambient vibes)

This video documents a writing/noise project that will be featured in the next issue of my zine Deft Esoterica. I wrote about my philosophical interest in noise music in the first issue, and decided to put out a very limited DIY cassette ad a “love letter” to the harsh noise wall movement.

I didn’t strictly adhere to the conventions of HNW, as it turns out that was harder than anticipated. Also did not use the now-typical “scary” imagery/aesthetic because I’m not into it, hence the dubious use of the term “contemporary”.

It was a lot of fun though, shot in one take with special effects by my partner Ola. Guest appearance by our cat Coconut.

I had to make a very last-minute trip to Toronto, so I brought along an Elektron Analog Four MkII to put it through its paces. I’d loved travelling with the Digitone, and I was hoping the Analog Four might provide some of that same joy. What I didn’t predict was that, as an analogue subtractive synth, the Analog Four MkII actually sounds incredible, maybe one of my best hardware units. I was super impressed with it. As a groovebox, it’s a little less useful, as four voices is often too little to compose a track. But it’s a joy to play, looks and feels great, and I’m definitely going to hang onto it and explore it more.

Here’s the track I made while in Toronto. My friend graciously agreed to pull out his old Electribe and jam with me for an hour while we were there. I’m very happy with the results!

Hey thanks! We played for years in guitar/drum bands together, so it’s nice to see some of that chemistry is there with synth stuff.

From a forthcoming album on Cloudchamber Recordings.

My association wih this label came through discussions with @prms on this forum (about field recordings…) about a year ago and Primoz kindly asked to hear some of my work… and it went from there. Very pleased with these tracks. The album is mastered by another lines member @ikjoyce
