More experimental improvisation. Feel a bit stuck with my musical direction just now. Not sure if I should keep focus on live performance, and try to get more gigs. Or make a more fully formed, polished release.

Plaits, Lifeforms Primary Oscillator, Spectrum and Clouds as voices. Thanks for listening

Out today via 6131 Records ‘Dig’ by Luray. This is the band’s second album and the first one that I was involved with. Not a ton of electronics but of interest might be some of the tunes I wrote/contributed parts to. An instrumental called ‘Hive’ was my main contribution, plus guitar parts and some personal picking techniques on the songs ‘So’, and ‘Mountain’ and ‘Animal’. I’m super proud of this record finally coming out (recorded pre-modular for me in 2015), and excited to be sharing the bill with @stripes on a couple shows, who btw also has a new album out today!

a two-part suite (searching, sketch) … pretty lame use of Plaits

just curious, was Plaits used in this recording?

Yes, but minimally. I think I used the particle noise output (triggered from a random source) to get clicky/wooden percussive sounds. I actually just racked Plaits again in my 104hp system, and I’m looking forward to experimenting with it more. I’ll give your latest tracks a listen for inspiration!

It was released today. I’m rather overwhelmed by the wonderful response. It’s the first time I’ve done a serious pre-sale thing and my hardcore fans have been great. It went top 5 at Apple Music in UK, France and Germany at some point today.
iTunes002
The Independent in UK (now called The i) made it album of the week. And reviews across the board have been very positive.

I’m getting a cocktail, now.

As a long term fan of your music (due to some strange combination of events, Easy Pieces was the first vinyl album I bought), I was surprised to encounter you on Lines, and couldn’t be more pleased to see the response to Guesswork. Purchasing now…

Wonderful to see this positive critical response, which you definitely deserve. I’ve been a fan of your work from way back in the day. I remember my wife having a major crush on you–and I still like your music. Best of luck with the album.

Probably the most experiemental and Avant-Garde track I’ve ever attempted…
Lots of ambience fighting with noise and static and field recordings and some keys…
Quite pleased with it though

Some more testing with my little DJ crossfader. Here using it like a “hihat” in a groove:

And for some good measure, a little demo of a housing I made to hold contact mics down easily:
