Eurorack modular patch based on two instances of the Scale Duet app in Hemisphere Suite for Ornament and Crime. Batumi and 4ms PEG feed Scale Duet(s), which send v/oct to a Mangrove and a Pittsburgh Primary Oscillator, which are fed through Ripples and LxD, followed by DLD, Clouds, and Morphagene. Brain Seed, Pam’s New Workout, Maths and Stages provide additional modulation and triggers for the patch. Added a field recording of cicadas from my back yard in Ableton, along with two sparse tracks of OP-1 and some master bus compression.

The latest piece in the DERIVE Soundscapes series; The City Forms is a suite of tracks with three movements, this is movement II. The piece was written for Future Cities Wellington, a live performance in the magnificent War Memorial in Wellington, New Zealand.

Oh, and now there’s a little clip as well…

Odd video for this week’s miniature

This is a bit of a departure from my chipmusic and drone roots, but it showcases some novel production approaches I’ve embraced quite lately:

had a great show

Experimenting with wave tables and s&h

Last weekend I performed in a show organized by my friend Noah (Illumination Station) as a benefit for RAICES, which raised over $700 for efforts to reunite immigrant families who have been forcibly separated at the so-called “border.”

Noah has released the recordings of these performances on his Bandcamp page, and proceeds from this album will also go to RAICES.

(i guess i don’t know how to embed here)

My piece for this show was performed on a 6U, Morphagene-centered Eurorack case, and a Buchla Music Easel. It was a structured improv inspired by the work of Sun Ra, and featuring field recordings of my feet walking in sand and waves, and the sounds of metal water bottles being struck together. I’m not capable of musically expressing the level of sadness that is being forced in my name in the US “border” zone right now, but some melancholy nonetheless came through, I think.

Many, many thanks to @andrew (alliterate), @Justmat (otis) and @dan_derks (hospital_food) for their beautiful and expressive instruments.

More experimental improvisation. Feel a bit stuck with my musical direction just now. Not sure if I should keep focus on live performance, and try to get more gigs. Or make a more fully formed, polished release.

Plaits, Lifeforms Primary Oscillator, Spectrum and Clouds as voices. Thanks for listening
