Tomorrow, Folded Note Records is releasing “The Watery Aftermath”
/// a new collection of abstract harp compositions by Darian Scatton.

I’m so excited this album is finally coming out! I’ve listened to it more than any other record for the better part of six months and it’s truly a testament to the power of working within limitations to create something wholly unique. The entirety of the record was composed with Darian’s harp and three pedals (looper, chorus, delay).

Available on cassette and digital download over at the fnr bandcamp page; you can stream three tracks now and the whole album will be released tomorrow!

Hi good people of lines,
I wanted to share this with you here as I feel that acousmatic music might be of interest to some of you :

poinvirgul

Those two pieces are introspectives trips, explorations of my inward silences, monologs of my subconscient in a way…
The first one is really about exploration, ideas coming in and out, following them, looking at memories appearing, taking me somewhere and then disappearing again, and all that process is fighting with consciousness trying to steer it, but never really accomplishing it, and leaving me exhausted and changed in the end, but with even more will to go inside that world again, when rested.
The second one was meant to go along a photography show named Silence(s), that was an exploration of the worlds that open before you when you go silent, the composition was scattered in a few naives sculptures (with hidden electronic) that would play loops of different duration, punctuating the space and accompanying the watcher. The photographs were the work of Lisa Gervassi and I loved working with photo and space (her sense of museography is really incredible).

edits: I can’t seem to figure out how to post a working embedded bandcamp player. Well.

Was your guitar plugged straight into the Norns? (Great work, BTW!)

thank you thank you <3

I ran the guitar through an orange crush 12 amp before plugging it into norns. I did this just for an extra volume boost because plugging it straight into norns works but, it’s a little quiet and adds some electrical noise because I have to boost the volume more. also the amp adds some nice crunch so it’s a win win for me

exploring just type. i love teletype and just friends so much already, i’m barely scratching the surface of possiblities but having so much fun.

this is just friends teletype scripts being triggered via meadowphysics, running through bounds on norns for some loveliness

also my first upload to youtube : )

Oh my god, this is amazing. Is this just the sound of Just Friends through bounds? Could you explain a little more the patch?

Thanks so much! The voices are Just Friends yes : ) I will try to explain the patch a little more below.

Meadowphysics is triggering the Teletype scripts, which are, for example, like the below

JF.VOX 1 N -12 V 5
DEL 100: JF.VOX 2 N 0 V 5
DEL 200: JF.VOX 3 N 7 V 5
DEL 300: JF. VOX 4 V 1 V 5
DEL 400: JF.VOX 5 N 15 V 5
DEL 1200: JF.VOX 6 N 15 V 7

Triggering this creates that plucked/strummed chord across all of the Just Friends voices. There are 5/6 of these chords set up on different scripts.

All the voices were fed in to Qu-Bit Nebulae and recorded for a short time, this was then granulated and reversed and is playing in the background as texture.

Then it’s all fed through clouds, then out of the modular in to Norns, running bounds. Bounds was continually recording for the whole time (tbh this was my first time using bounds so i’m not 100% sure what i’m doing with it yet!) on a 20 second buffer I believe.

I hope that kind of explains what’s going on a little more!

New track - symbiosis of modular synths and field recordings. 2020 was not the best year for music production but some tracks need to be done and released.
