“Annulus Pneuma” is a meditation thinking about circles and feedback loops with what you put in having a direct relationship on what come out for and extended period of time often creating new ideas within the ideas that didn’t exist when the first idea was created. Audio wise thinking in circles this is 2 separate sequences running at different lengths sequencing one voice so that the sequence is repetitive while morning over time. Video wise I focused on airless shapes and a bigger feedback loop within the circle to ultimately shape this video in a controlled but unpredictable manner and slowly progressed the visuals as I created the song concurrently.

I’ve finally gotten around to rearranging things so my modular system is sitting behind my Pro 2. It’s a lot of fun working with the two in tandem, and you can get a surprising amount of utility out of the Pro 2’s 4 CV inputs and outputs. This recording started as a simple experiment that ended up absorbing my attention for a morning. A Pittsburgh Primary Osc and Dixie running through the Pro 2 filters/effects, with additional envelopes from the Pro 2 shaping the dynamics of, and triggering semi-random notes for a self FM’ed Three Sisters. And a simple pad from a Mopho x4 played on the side while I fiddled with the main patch.

Live performance using modular synths and CV Tools.

The Percussa SSP’s wavetable oscillator is the main sound source (+ Physical Modeling Membrane). The XYZ axis of the wavetable was modulated through the envelope follower. All samplers used here were not used as sound sources. It was used as an envelope generator to replace the envelope generator. Each sample’s waveform creates a unique envelope. (Of course, through VCA)

Teletype creates structures. Each script emits a trigger and CV through the configured and probability, which is controlled by TXi. The trigger input is taken from Pam’s NEW Workout.

One of the main functions of the SSP, the interface allows integration with a computer. I received the pulse from the trigger type of Teletype through Ableton Live’s CV Tools and operated the M4L patch I made, and used the effects of Ableton Live together.

(I recommend listening with earphones or headphones.)

Thanks for watching.

This is the first time I make a song with piano and modular mixed and I learned a lot in the process. It’s important to tune well the modular synth before recording, in each session, if you are going to combine it with other instruments. In my case, I was mixing the modular with my upright piano, that is not very well tuned by the way, so the detuning was very clear between them and I had to fix later both tracks with Logic and this wasn’t easy to do.

Two voices from the modular synth were sequenced by the Deluge, that also adds the bass line. Everything was recorded in an stereo track of the DAW, over which I recorded the felt muted piano. I also added a pair of sounds from Lekko and Jasno (from Felt Instruments) in the second part of the song.

“Rustle” is a project about Alienised Public Spaces.

Using generated music and tones and music combined with edited field recordings, the aim was to create alien soundscapes from human environments. In collaboration with Media Butcher, the project expanded into an A/V work, and became about reinterpreting human spaces into unfamiliar and sometimes disconcerting audio visual scenes.
The project has been gestating and gently morphing for a couple of years, but, now seemed like an appropriate time to begin releasing such a work.

“Romantic Dream Spasm”, (the second released part), will be track seven on the audio EP of the “Rustle” project.
All audio is created by Animal Botanic
All video is created by Media Butcher

I’m making a lot of music as a distraction from lockdown. This piece turned out to be a “software” I’ve written special.
