I found myself wondering this afternoon, yet again, how the Hafler Trio made a lot of his turn of the century records. (if you follow me on mastodon you may have seen more of my musings but I shall leave those there…)
Came up with this

Added audio reactivity to my amazon rainforest gaussian splats sketch. Infinite breaks with @infinitedigits amenbreak. Synth stuff is from the Casio FZ-1 going through the SP404

Made almost entirely with the Chase Bliss Loss, just one sample ran through it in a few different ways -

More moody, noisy, droney, dark ambient-adjacent cousin-to-Berlin-School occasionally-shaking-hands-with-industrial, improvised stuff from me. Mostly modular hardware and software, with a tiny bit of bass guitar and electric kalimba and a brief visit from K.O. II.
Patch notes etc. are here.

I had a lot of fun putting together my new EP, Meter. Four up-tempo tracks inspired by the Make Noise Strega. You’ll hear some acid, breaks, synths, noise, hiss, and bass.

My final 2023 release is Wolves - Disco and Boogaloo Remixes EP.
The Unlimited (Disco) Remix is by Chris Merrick Hughes and Mark Frith. The original video has been re-treated and re-synced to the new tempo.
The (Boogaloo) Mogwai remix was started by Barry Burns of Mogwai and completed by me (B had family emergency to attend to).
I haven’t done much re-mixing recently and now that’s 4 in a year!

I made an album! Took a very long time to actually get it finished, but here it is!
8 tracks of ambience with tape loops, field recordings, a lot of norns, a small Eurorack system and two very clunky old digital synths.

I upgraded the Spectraphon & I’m in “a mood” (those two facts are totally unrelated) & felt like making some music.
In passing - love the new Spectraphon oscillators - also I’m putting the Benjloin though one of the channels of the Spectraphon (in SAM mode) - Spectraphon is great for creating lots of movement in the sound

Hey there
I released on October 13th an ep called “A l’embellie”
2 dreamy and ethereal ambient tracks, the soundtrack to a fleeting gaze towards the horizon on a rainy day

Hey everybody! I put out a new EP Side Four this week
You can listen on Bandcamp or Spotify or whatever you’d like at this link: Side Four by Wide Out - DistroKid
This EP was heavily inspired by a few things:
-
Rhythmic experiments with Cyrene, along with the Analog Rytm and Stolperbeats. Mostly fed into XLN XO, sometimes re-learned on drums and performed live, all with lots of love and care
-
Upper extensions. Quartal voicings in particular
-
My first guitar pedalboard (the Electro Harmonix Q-tron and the Chase Bliss Mood MkII in particular). I’ve been playing guitar for more than 20 years at this point, but have avoided pedals the whole time. Turns out they’re pretty fun and inspiring
-
UA native plugins so I could mix anywhere. Channel strips & tape on literally everything. Really proud of the sound on this one
All in all, there’s some pop, some soul, and some experimentation. For fans of Jordan Rakei, Nick Hakim, Still Woozy, Tom Misch, FKJ, etc.
I hope you like it! Let me know what you think

Rather Unreasonable
back on my Relabi nonsense , this time with some not quite techno.
some part of me takes a (possibly perverse) delight in making things that outside of usual genre and tropes and only really reward people who actually listen. It has an internal logic all of its own
construction notes: Rollz rhythms via the Manifold Research Center spinning into sounds and modulations and then played. Additional voices are granular stuff
