Born in France (Marseilles) in 1973, Lionel Kasparian has been living in Brussels since 2013. He is a graduate from the Nadia & Gilles Touché Drum School and the National Music Conservatory of Marseilles (electroacoustic music composition). He began his career in instrumental improvisation in connection with new technologies, before developing his work in sound design and sound creation with multichannel loudspeaker systems. In his work, he questions the collective aspect of human existence from the prominent place of the personality of the individual and he is particularly interested in so-called "marginal" people. His creations are often surrounding themes of introspection and intimacy. In 2003, he founded Art-Temps Réel, a non-profit organization that develops activities ranging from the production of multiphonics musical works, to the production of events, including the transmission in educational workshops. Since 2010, the organization has been dedicated to the development of participatory creative projects aimed at reaching diverse audiences in a given territory.
These artistic projects have a strong political dimension and aim to express a questioning of social norms. Between 2010 and 2013, he has worked as a composer and producer for the 2013 European Capitals of Culture, in several inclusive parts: from the show of the opening night to long-term projects involving residents in collective artistic creations.
Following, he developed similar projects around the territories in the south of France and shared is expertise with multiple public institutions. Since 2017, he has renewed his direction of work in experimenting alternative artistic and compositional intentions, through solos or collaboratively.
