Oh, reading guidelines is for losers.

I just send @myecholalia a link to a dropbox.

yeah, still intending to send out those upload links later. traveling again, so am a bit behind.
but if you are done with your track and want to send me a link to a download somewhere else, that’s fine too.

I like to play by the rules until I figure out the cultural norms

Oh man, this is going to be down to the wire for me. I’ve been traveling, and am just now figuring out a setup that I’m happy with to get this done.

We’re on the home stretch for this LCRP.
How’s everyone travelling?

Broken down in the ditch myself. I keep getting distracted by these synthesizers, you see…

I think I’ve finally cracked mine and actually just finished “mastering” my recording this morning.

nearly there. Although, yet again, I seem to have twisted onto a different path from my (second) intention. At least I will have a few stems to play with after this.

Have done a couple of mixes this afternoon. Need to give my ears a rest for a day to decide if i like either of them… bit like saintcloud i suppose.

Well, mine’s about as done as it’s gonna get.
Are we to provide compressed or uncompressed audio files?

paging @Simeon
are you still game to do the mastering for this project?
if yes, do you prefer compressed or uncompressed master files from people?

my assumption was that everyone sends finished tracks that are tweaked as much as possible to taste. then you only do the last bit of fine-tuning to make sure levels are homogeneous across the board and the overall sound is coherent. right?

Hi! Still more than happy to master these tracks. Let’s do some general guidelines:

  • Please provide your track in WAV or AIFF format, at least CD quality.

  • We’re all producers to one extent or another here, so please provide your track as you’d like it to be heard. That said, there are things that’d help me out. Some headroom is always nice to work with, and seeing as this is for a compilation, normal levels of bass / mids / highs would be nice.

  • If you whack a distorting limiter and your track is pushing 0db all the way through with totally scooped-out mids, that’s fine if that’s how you want your track to sound. That said, it’ll probably get dropped in volume quite a lot, just to fit in with rest of the tracks. The Flying Lotus sound is beautiful, but is going to stick out like a sore thumb.

  • For guidance, I’m going to be looking at: volume, perceived and real, EQ, perceived and real, stereo imaging, space perception, and system duplicability (is this going to translate well to stereo / 2.1 systems / headphones…).

awesome, thanks for the detailed guidance.

edit: i’ll be sending out personalized upload links in the next hour or two. if you’ve already sent me a link to your finished track, then uploading it to your folder on Box is optional. everybody else, please upload directly to your Box folder as this will simplify my life a little bit. excited to hear your tracks!

if you didn’t get your personal upload link yet, you’ll get it tomorrow.
i’ve hit the max number of new messages i’m allowed to send as PM in a day…

EDIT:
sorry for the LCRP spam today.
seems some people have issues uploading their finished tracks.
just send me your file vie wetransfer or dropbox or whatever if you have problems with the box link.

@myecholalia
cool, thanks for hosting
this time

Sorry i’m not going to make it this time. enjoyed playing around with the samples but had not enough creative inspiration to make a good track out of it.
Looking forward to hear what other people have made!

i’ve not got around to starting yet so looks like i’m out :toilet:

well, finally did it after getting stuck for a while.
It was not very easy to restrain from using every sample, as each carried some interesting possibilities. I ended up with lots of (short) slices and some extreme time stretching / resynthesis.
The result could have been more polished but it’s a busy period.
(sorry, it’s a techno track, somehow) .-.

As for mastering, it’s probably a bit too dynamic, so @Simeon, do not hesitate to remove/soften peaks if needed.

made it, thanks @emenel for the sample!

@myecholalia thanks for hosting! big ups! can you send me a link?

Another 3 mixes last night …cant quite let go/ be happy with it. I hadn’t given the mastering of it any thought until Simeon’s post. This will definitely be interesting to see how they all cohere as one album.
