I think most people will say for best results either an ES9/8 [what I use] or a Hermod will make things easier.
The only issue is getting AUM to slave because… well it doesn’t do midi slave.He hasn’t implemented MIDI clock-in yet. Thus, if using AUM, let it be the master clock instead.
Other options are Drambo or MiRack if you’d like to use Pam’s as the master clock.

I WAS using an Erica MIDI<>Clock module to pull clock from this convoluted Pitt Mod Generator X pattern generation method I used to center my beat making practice in. The Erica module switches between Clock to MIDI or MIDI to Clock, but that’s buying something. As @DatGood says, AUM doesn’t follow MIDI clock in, but maybe you can get that to work with the MIDI Link Sync app.

Thanks @DatGood … i have an ES-8 which i use for audio but as far as i can tell it wont do MIDI…do you know differently? Wish it would.

My link approach with th ML:2 is fine as long as i don’t change tempo in the middle of a piece, which is ok But a bit crappy when playing with others.

I have over the last 6 months started using loopy pro a lot more as my ios ‘boss’.

I haven’t used the Erica MIDI<->CLK for a couple reasons.
I’m not really using the Generator X set up as lead clock anymore, usually opting for AUM of Drambo as host and leader. That way I can send MIDI clock and also send/receive Ableton Link.
I generally want my ipad as the center timing source, not the modular.

I’m looking for some help.

I have a FH-2 but it can’t be in two cases at once. So I’m trying to use another utility to send midi from my Linnstrument to CV outs of the ES-8 or ES-3.

My desired setup over 8 outs:

Pitch, gate, velocity, aftertouch, y axis, pitch2, gate2, aftertouch2. This is how my FH-2 is set up.

I tried CoVariant but have found the calibration wonky. I should be getting a straight line on my Mutable Plaits and instead it’s all jagged. I’m also a little confused about how to assign aftertouch and y axis across multiple channels.

I tried MiRack and the channel assignment is easy and it pretty much “just works”, but I can’t seem to figure out how to adjust pitch bend range and even at 48 half steps it’s a bit off, so for melodic playing everything sounds a bit off.

I’m curious what ended up working for you? I’m in a similar situation currently - I’ve been enjoying many of the generative iOS apps, but the next step is to add more structure and longer, changing sequences.

I have Xequence, which is great but lacks AUv3 (although it works perfectly alongside AUM using Ableton Link). I’ve also considered Atom 2, but it doesn’t seem to be getting updates anymore, which could be a concern.

I’m not hugely fond of the DAW-like linear sequencing/piano rolls that both apps rely on. And I’d prefer something a bit more perfomable - structured, but with the ability to have hands-on control over transitions.

Is there anything else I should be looking at? Maybe an Ableton-style MIDI clip launcher like LK?

This will really help me to stop lusting after a Rene. I don’t need more gear!

You might want to look at using Mozaic between the linnstrument and the cv generator – it would allow you to filter incoming midi and map/adjust values as desired to make it work better with the cv generator, and you could do things like take y axis from multiple channels on linnstrument and average them, or use max/min value as desired.

I have fairly extensive interaction between my modular, iPad, and external FX. I route all midi through AUM in their awesome midi matrix. I use an ES-9 to interface between the synth and iPad. All recording is done in AUM.

I would explain it more, but it’s too complicated to do that way. I can answer questions though.

Does anyone have any experience with the 2HP MIDI module? It is said to be class compliant with Mac and PC but silent as to iOS.

It is reasonably priced for what I am looking for but I’d rather know if it will work before I order one…

I don’t own one but I would say that if it states that it is “class compliant” then it will most definitely work with iOS. Appropriate dongle will be required according to your iOS device.

It’s a class compliant MIDI device so it should work on any OS or MIDI host that can handle class compliant devices. iOS and iPadOS handle these things nicely. For the iPad Air you most likely need a CCK as it’s lightning, right? Also, not all devices play nicely if there’s a hub between them.

Ah true, the newer ones joined the pro with USB C. Sweet, then it of course needs no CCK and might even work with a hub. At least my pro works very well with many USB MIDI devices through a hub.

I connect my modular to my iPad via an ES-9 and the CalDigit TS-4.

Any midi that needs to come out is via CoVariant.

I use a Befaco CV Thing and Midi Link Sync to clock AUM from Pam’s.

There’s a presonus soundcard I had for a while which has DC coupled outputs you can use to send out CV from bitwig etc. I can’t remember exactly what it was but had 10 in and 10 out, was effectively similar to the expert sleepers
