I’m not exactly familiar with this “nginx-rtmp” server… how will one connect to it? I understand the gist of what it will do but I just would like to know some more details I guess?

Count me in. Already streaming here at least weekly, so I’m reasonably well up to speed. Will watch for details, and happy to assist with anyone who needs it.

Basically, if you’re using OBS or similar software for your stream, you set the NGINX rtmp server as your destination that you’re streaming to, and then the rtmp server relays it from there to (wherever).

I’m on OBS looking through all the options for servers to stream to but I’m not seeing that one

Edit: Wait, are we saying that we’ll be using the “Custom” option under service and naming the server as “nginx-rtmp”?

I believe you’d have to use “custom”.

EDIT: Well, doesn’t matter what you name it, the naming is just internal – but yes, we’d use the custom option and populate it with the details (address, stream key etc) of the RTMP server.

NGINX is just a server-side platform that can run various web servers, streaming servers etc…

Read the doc!

In very brief: nginx is a web server package, nginx-rtmp is an extension that lets it serve RTMP streams as well. I run nginx and OBS on a server in Google Cloud. Since the server needs to have GPU, they are more expensive than normal cloud servers… but still only ~$1/hour.

It may be less confusing to keep the discussion of streaming protocols outside of the lines community stream back in the Coronavirus streaming thread.

hey everyone.

So we are doing a test over at twitch.tv/lines_community tomorrow at 6pm UTC. Follow along and give feedback! It might even inspire you to sign up

May10th is still the date for the main stream, unless anything goes horribly wrong tomorrow.

All the best.

Works fine for me on a stream watcher side of things  And I must admit Pulsar-23 makes one hell of a kitchen appliance
EDIT: clicked on link to test if it is working, stayed for the whole mzero set, great work! I will definitely need to check previous streams.

WOW y’all, beautiful job with this! I’m tuned in now and it’s lovely – watching from NYC via the Twitch desktop app on a mac.

I have just connected. It’s working OK.
I had to refresh the browser when @junklight have begun. Is this normal?

Don’t know about ‘normal’ lol but I’ve had to refresh at the start of each session… But you know these lines folks, they don’t care about crossing the streams!

we are looking into it, but yes it kind of is. might be an issue on my end. will hopefully figure it out by the time we get to may 10th. thankfully not a “dealbreaker”, but would be nice to not have to refresh.

Loving @junklight’s set, btw

It’s a common glitch that Twitch has. The feature we’re using to switch between different performers isn’t really designed to be used live the way we do it.

Ok. It’s not really a dealbreaker.
I am a new Twich user, so I didn’t know if it was my fault.
