I thought this was a thought-provoking video about where things may be going with electronic music. Lots of conversation snippets with producers and hardware manufacturers. If nothing else, this video provides tons of circuit board porn.

Hmm, the Telekom Electronic Beats Artist Tech Talk videos also seem to be featuring almost exclusively male artists (61 out of 63 videos, if I counted correctly). Well, at least they have this playlist called Women Who Rule Electronic Music, but I still get the impression that they tend to leave the “more techy stuff” mostly to men…

Anyways, here are two more videos featuring two female pioneers of electronic music:

Alex’s documentaries are truly fantastic! I was awaiting this one as eagerly as anything else I can think of and it absolutely didn’t disappoint (he never does!)

This looks like it’s made with a lot of love. Have not watched it yet, but really looking forward to it.

I managed to catch a rather brilliant documentary back in 2008, directed by Mika Taanila, at Sonic Acts festival in Amsterdam.

It’s called The Future is Not What It Used To Be, and centres on little known Finnish artist Erkki Kurenniemi (who unfortunately passed away a few years ago) and his early pioneering computer artworks and instruments.

At the time I think I found a copy online, and even appropriated it in a live set at one point, but as far as I know there is no official release and it seems to have vanished somewhat now. It just does the rounds at film festivals every now & then, or at least it did for a while.

It’d be nice to see it get loose on a streaming platform of some kind. I think I still have a copy lying around somewhere.

great documentary and great character – some of his ideas/approaches reminded me of Don Buchla.
I saw it ages ago and I remember it was even on utube but unfortunately no more.

I happened upon this doc last week. A wonderful portrayal of the band and their fans.
