I use the OBS app that a guy independently put together. I plugged the phone in with USB. If you use Wireless there’s quite some latency I found and I have a fast connection so USB definitely works better.

OBS desktop is free but the app cost me £15.99 but it’s money well spent as it works seamlessly with the software on the computer and is really high quality. AND even better is very easy to use
And you don’t need to buy an expensive webcam then either!

Thank you. I was really surprised by the good quality of it all too. No latency and very high quality of image and sound. I’m going to do some more exploratory sessions in the weeks to come. One a kind of Ciat Lonbarde session, another more Serge, and so on.

Thanks, I’m using Epoccam HD and it works flawlessly with OBS.

Regarding sound cards, I couldn’t make it work on Mac with RME UCX, Focusrite Saffire Pro40, Presonus FP10. They show up, but no input works.
I had success with Zoom H4N (that need to be using a power supply otherwise it’s buzzing) and Focusrite Clarett.

Great to hear that. Surprised that there was an issue with the other interfaces. Can’t begin to understand why but sounds like you have a solution which is positive! Have fun then!

I don’t know why that would be.

I have another solution: I am using my DAW to route everything and then also as my main mixer. If your DAW can pick up any of those interfaces you should be able to do that too.

I am using Reaper which allows me to select different input and output devices. On my input device I selected my interface. On my output I selected a multi output device that I created in Audio MIDI Setup with my interface and BlackHole by Existential Audio (similar to iShowU and Soundflower but my preference). The reason to do this is so that you can monitor what goes out as well.

In OBS I created a new Audio Input Capture Source and set it to Blackhole. My default audio inputs are all disabled in OBS audio preferences.

In Reaper I can now create as many tracks as I want and assign any physical input to them. As long as input monitoring is turned on it will be sent to my headphones as well as OBS.

This takes the mixing duties off of OBS which I quite like since the Reaper’s mixer interface is better for me, and I can map it to MIDI controls if I wanted to. It also solves the problem of OBS not picking up all the input channels on the interface or in some cases not even the interface.

I am planning on making a video to demonstrate this since it’s a common problem and a simple enough solution with some extra benefits but I hope this all makes sense.

m. geddes gengras at 8pm eastern tonight via instagram live:

I think I’ll livestream an hour or two of this contraption sketching away in a few days. I might do some music for it. I just tested out mic’ing the paper with a contact mic. Nice scratchy textural sound.

Caught Headphone Commute and Blankfor.ms on Instagram last night, by accident. Due to the rubbish nature of Instagram, you can see these for a few more hours :frowning:

HC was playing a Make Noise skiff, and Blankfor.ms a 424 + MOOD.

Thanks a lot. In my case, my music computer does not go on the internet. I’m using another computer to run OBS, so that won’t work. But for some other stuff, I take good note of your advice !

Ready or not–here I go!

Hope you and your families are healthy and doing ok. Just want to announce my new show–Streaming from Resonant Space

I’m Barry Schmetter, aka @resonant_space and co-coordinator of the DC Modular Collective @dc_modular_collective, with Aaron Mertes. I’m a modular artist–both video and audio–and also an installation artist and field recordist. I play live modular shows in the DC area (during non-plague season), including video art for the Sonic Frontiers series @gatewayartscenter, and for Flag Day Recordings showcases. My last audio/video installation, Electromagnetic Fields, was at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum in 2019, and I recently had a proposal accepted for a new installation in June.

As of Friday March 27, I’m starting a weekly modular streaming show. Show title–Streaming from Resonant Space. It streams Fridays starting at 8:00 pm EDT (00:00 GMT). Shows will run approximately two hours. The show is initially starting on Twitch and can be found at https://www.twitch.tv/resonant_space Hopefully expanding to other platforms soon.

Content will be modular ambient experimental music/video jams, modular demos and experiments, field recordings–raw and processed, and assorted sound art jetsam and flotsam. Hopefully, some guest performances from the DC modular scene as well.

Fridays at 8:00 pm EDT (00:00 GMT)

March 27 - Ultimate Music Concrete Modular walkthrough and ambient jam featuring Arbahr/Lubadh/Morphagene/Mimeophon/Stereo Dipole/Fumana/Tetrapad+Tete. After the demo, the visuals will switch to live video art.

April 3 - Modular Experiment! Recreating Morton Subotnik’s Ghost Box with the Frap Tools Fumana. We’ll dive into spectral transfer on the Fumana and attempt a multichannel CV recording using the same process as Don Buchla’s Ghost Box–built for Morton Subotnik. We’ll also discuss the origins of spectral transfer and vocoding, World War II voice encryption, and notable spectral transfer modules.

April 10 - Intro to Modular Video Synthesis - Part 1

Beginners guide to modular video synthesis–we’ll cover basic concepts of video synthesis, particularly in relation to audio modules, discuss LZX analog and digital video modules, Vidiot, Erogenous Tones Structure, glitch, and vintage video gear.

April 17 and beyond–Topics TBD

Take care all–

Barry

NOTE: Time has changed to 8:00 pm EDT (00:00 GMT).

Doing this again. Testing out OBS this time. Still on Facebook(but twitch might be the way to go). Might do this every fortnight from now on. It is a good experience to just sit and improvise in front of an audience like this. Also very healing for signs of cabin fever.

OBS on OSX also doesn’t see the audio from MOTU soundcards. I have an UltraliteMK1 and an 828MKII. I am going to try Blackhole

That’s annoying…hopefully this will be fixed.

in the OBS App, can you use the iPad/iPhone’s microphone as an input ?

You have the option to use the iPhone mic if you wish or not. You can also mute it. In the desktop App I simply mute it as well as I don’t want sound to come through the phone, only my audio interface.

Thanks ! epoccam doesn’t seem to allow this. Otherwise it’s great.
