I’ve been getting in on this streaming lark too. There are a few from this week but this is the latest. Earlier ones feature more monome gear

some great tips here.

The other thing I “discovered” (by watching Sonic Talk  ) is https://restream.io/ - so now my stream goes to YouTube ,twitch and FB at the same time - but it seems to have some nice controls etc built in even if you just go to YouTube - I’m just using the free tier

Nick Batt (of Sonic State) made the comment “if you think there is a lot going on with audio wait until you get into video…” I can see what he means.

Just because I find what others using useful - my current setup is OBS (basic) , The iOS Cam app mentioned up above to allow tethered capture (I’ve also just installed NDI but I’ll experiment more with that first) , I’ve got my Sony RXIII via elgato camlink 4k - but the quality is a little ropey - my partner has a phone upgrade due - I might see if I can have her old phone as a second camera, Audio is hardware -> Saffire pro 40 -> Ableton (with the inevitable Valhalla reverb and delay - essential!) that goes into loopback2 (with monitoring via my Saffire pro 40) and then loopback 2 is the audio source for OBS. I’ve not been bothering recording locally just using ableton as a mixing desk. Probably could just use the mixer in the Saffire and skip ableton TBH

Streamed my 2nd show last night and am finally working out some of the bugs. Audio quality was great, and the video quality was excellent–when everything was working. I did experience multiple freeze-ups of the USB connection between my iPhone and laptop using OBS Cam–no idea why that’s happening. Managed to mostly catch the freezups and unplugging/replugging the usb cable fixes it, but still annoying. Also, I found that OBS bogs down quickly with multiple sources, but works well if you keep an eye on resources.

On the equipment side, the MixPre 6 continues to amaze me–and is a champ as a mixer/recorder/audio interface for streaming–100% solid. Finally using my Rode PodMic and studio arm–great combination–and mic quality is top notch. The iPhone doesn’t play well with anything–not a fan of Apple’s walled garden. I’d like to find a high quality camera with interchangeable lenses, but need to do research to find ones suitable for streaming over USB.

I ran a test stream on Twitch today using Streamlabs. I’ve never used the platform before, didn’t watch any instructional videos, and didn’t ‘read the manual.’ I was able to go live with my stream within about three minutes of tinkering about.

To anyone interested but unsure, it’s quite easy to get a stream running. I’m using a circa 2014 MacBook Air and an Allen & Heath ZEDi 10 mixer and it ran without issues in either sound or video quality.

Tonight’s the streaming version of our monthly electronic music open mic. This is a very ambitious event with 9 live musicians each doing a 15 ~ 20 min. set, and 3 live visualists, all streaming from their homes to a server, mixed, and then streamed out live via YouTube.

April 5th, 6pm PDT / 0100 UTC April 6th

Link to show: https://resfreq.live/026 - you can click on that now and set a reminder.

I have a whole technical doc on how I set this up - not for the faint of heart - a bit of a mess now, but will update after the show is done.

Oh, yeah, and I’m playing 2nd set…
… hope to see you on-line.

random maybe handy info for those about to start organizing streams (me). I’m thinking about having artists run a speed test before the sound/stream check.

for another show I’m playing I had to mess around with where I set my laptop before I actually had the bandwidth to stream in my studio.

also VERY cool @mzero, how did it go? youtube is so convenient for archiving but I’m curious how sound/video quality compared to twitch

hope this is an ok thread for this, wondering if anybody can help me get Pilot to pipe to OBS. currently i can send the audio out to a usb interface and then OBS can hear that, but it would be nice to skip the interface sometimes.

i don’t know what that orange synth pictured is but it looks rad.

I’m doing my first livestream today at 5pm Eastern via a site local to me called Richmond Grid. I’ll be using guitar and this friend:

45 minutes of improvisation that’ll be streaming on their Facebook page:

Using my laptop for camera and streaming audio via OBS----thought about using the phone but they want me to use it for Instagram Live----so that feed…won’t sound as good lol

Orange synth is a SOMA Pulsar-23. There’s really nothing like it.
I played it in my set that night. It is playing everything except the chords, including all the lead line and, delay & reverb effects.

The improv night that I co-run has been doing a live streaming festival for the last few Tuesdays/Thursdays. The next set of performances will be today at 4pm GMT and will include a set by met:

And my individual performance from it (the OBS stream cropped it all weird):

Going to dip a fifteen minute long toe into live streaming this Saturday at 1pm eastern (17:00 GMT?):

Not sure how to classify what I’ll be playing - not really ambient, but it wouldn’t get kicked out of the ambient lunch table.

Well that was fun! Might have to do that again…

Personal achievement unlocked—playing a 45 minute ambient-ish set with no reverb.

Now got things working but also had to route audio thru ableton
