Elephant has excellent transport links so you’ll be able to get to other parts of the city really easily. If you download the Citymapper app it’ll give you integrated routes across buses, tubes and trains for wherever you want to go, and makes the otherwise pretty confusing transport network extremely simple to navigate.

The best venue in Elephant itself is Corsica Studios: Legowelt’s playing there next Friday.

i’ll be back in london again this year from march 16-23.

any london-based folks interested in putting together a show of some kind? i made it out to cafe oto last year and thought that would be a good place, though i have no idea how difficult or far in advance bookings tend to happen there. a friend also recommended a place called IKLEKTIK.

my live stuff is in the ambient/minimal vein, something like this isn’t a terrible representation.

regardless, would be cool to meet some lines folks while i’m out there!

I’ve heard good things about iklektik but haven’t been yet myself, couple of other options could be DIY Space or Rye Wax. From what I understand Oto get way more event pitches than they’re able to reply to let alone make happen, so I suspect that might be ambitious.

Finding good venues for grassroots music in London is getting increasingly difficult, to be honest, and attracting an audience when there are a million other things going on isn’t much easier. Even the friends of mine who’ve run critically acclaimed and popular club nights have been a bit ground down by it recently.

That’s not to discourage you, it’s still perfectly possible to create cool events, it just means you need to have a bit more of a think about exactly what you want to achieve and how much time & money you want to invest upfront.

Two of my new fav restaurants are Levan in Peckham and Xi’an Biang Biang noodles in Aldgate/Spitalfields. Trying Jolene in Hackney next week, too, which looks promising.

if you’re in Whitechapel: Tayyabs is fantastic. Everything is great - quite meaty, but if you don’t eat meat, it’s got some great vegetarian things. But seriously, Tayyabs.

Great recommendations so far.

If you’re into wine, you’ll be within walking distance of Sager & Wilde and The Laughing Heart, both of which have an excellent selection.

Restaurant-wise, I would also recommend Smoking Goat, Brat & St Leonard’s all just down the road in Shoreditch.

The Bleep record store has unfortunately just closed which would have been worth a trip.

London Modular isn’t too far, check opening times before going though.

I’m in London until May 7th. Any esoteric suggestions? I’m already planning on going to the Flutter Echo Festival at Cafe Oto to see Thurston Moore and others. Any other art/music/film/food/oddity thoughts?

Hanging in London tonight (well, Cafe Oto specifically) to see Joshua Abrams’ Natural Information Society w/ Evan Parker. Hung out at Oto earlier in the afternoon and spent too much on incredible records — a great place that so far has exceeded my high expectations.

Been to a couple of great small jazz clubs in London recently - The Crypt in Camberwell and Vortex in Dalston. Both highly recommended.

Flimflam at Ryan’s Bar on Stoke Newington Church Street is an improv institution.

It is good, and despite being a London resident, a combination of family commitments and not having a local gig-partner/crew prevent me going as regularly as I would like. As a minor anecdote, last time I was there they ran out of paper towels in the gents toilets so a chap in there at the same time as me went to the stockroom and methodically filled it up for us, which was nice because he’d just got off stage and was Thurston Moore.
