If I’m understanding you correctly what you can do to keep the “new” table is leave the instrument column blank on subsequent notes.
If you include the instrument number the instrument is reset to the initial state but if you leave the slot blank it will just keep using the last instrument as is with the changed table.
I’m typing this at work though so can’t have a quick check on the M8 to see if I am correct!

this is the correct answer. just delete the number in the instrument column, and the instrument won’t retrigger, and all settings from previous steps will be held. kind of like overlapping notes with a monophonic instrument in a midi roll, if that makes sense. this is standard behaviour of all trackers i know.
however, this might cause problem if you have, for instance, an envelope decaying the volume of the instrument, because the new note (without instrument number) will continue playing the instrument with the envelopes current position… so you would have to use the ET1 or ET2 command to retrigger the envelope : )
since you’re after random variations, another cool but more complex option would be to set the instrument table to TIC00 (to make it step forward every time a new note is triggered), and then in the table put TBL commands next to NTH commands with different values, to change between tables seemingly at random (but definitely calculable if you’re like that) on every new note in the phrase.
edit: some minor clarifications

Can you set fade in and fade out times per chop in the sample editor?

Only if you divide the chops over different instruments.
What are you trying to achieve?

I don’t own a M8 Tracker but I would like to know if is it possible to chop samples without hearing a click.

i suspect there is some tiny fade in automatically, because i don’t experience clicks. you can also set an envelope to volume, and adjust the attack time in the fx column or in tables per slice, for fine control.
slicing is very quick and fluid. i find it easier on the m8 than on the sp404mkii even.

It is good to know that. Thanks for the info!

Yes ditto, it’s not really a problem I’ve noticed to be honest. The envelopes help considerably.

I’m looking for the m8 discord group, but can’t figure it out. The one I joined (from the link on dirtywave’s website) only has 2 topics: rules and announcements. Seems like I’m not in the right place…

Its the right place, look through the rules and choose a roll (or whatever its called) by replying to the prompt with one of the listed emoji. That’ll get the rest of the group to pop up.

Y’all don’t sleep on the fact that the BPM goes from 1-999. Envelopes, LFOs, and tables are tempo-bound, and you can make wild stuff happen with a simple TPO 01.

Any of you all sequence an old hardware sampler with the m8? I feel like that could be an amazing combo.

The creator teased a swarm type / super saw instrument on the Discord today, it did a very convincing THX Deep Note.
