Thank you. Could you recommend an FT editor for Mac OS?

I don’t know of any, but back in the day I used to do that on Linux running a free Windows VM in VirtualBox.

Thanks - I think I’ll commandeer a PC

Hi, I know I’m the 10000th person to post this. But my computer will not recognize my monome.

It is a monome 128 grid from 2011.

I am running Macbook Pro from mid 2015 with macOs High Sierra.

I downloaded serialosc and see it running in my Activity Monitor

I am using Ableton Live 10 Suite (10.0.1); however, it is not picking up the monome device. Moreover, if I go to Audio Midi Setup and into Midi Studio, the monome does not show up as a listed Midi device.

Please help! Thank you.

downloading serialosc is the first step. you need to download an application to use with the grid now that it can speak osc with your computer. here is a list of the classics.

https://monome.org/docs/

and seeing as how it looks like you want to use the grid with ableton, i recommend downloading

terms – sum, pulled apart, as max for live plugins for ableton
re:mix – extended mlr within ableton live (my fav)

another great resource for monome apps to run inside ableton is

http://maxforlive.com/

just search for “monome” and a bunch of cool stuff will come up. also, grid will not show up under the ableton devices menu. you can use max to see if it is properly connected. max is free with ableton 10

Hi, thank you so much for the response.
I did download serialosc; however, none of these programs can find the grid controller.
For example, in Mark Eats Sequencer, i am getting 17%20PM

Also I have tested the USB cable, and it works fine with other devices.

Sometimes hotswapping the monome can cause it not to be recognized in my setup. A restart of the computer with the monome plugged in usually works for me!

unfortunately that did not work. Thanks for the help tho!

a look in to this thread may help. i was fortunate enough to have my grid work fine on sierra.

just checking - did you follow the instructions here?

https://monome.org/docs/app/package/

with either the Max 7 Runtime, or with Max For Live included with Ableton Live 10, you have to go into Max, then go to File -> Package Manager, type “monome” into the search bar and click on the result, then click “Install”.

Yes, I did follow those instructions. It still wont detect the monome.
Also, the Ableton Live Suite is completely legitimate (not a torrent). Thank you for the help!

on a separate note, I know that the monome docs says that the Grid 128/ 2011 is all bus powered. standard usb plug. Is this for sure accurate?

After running ls -l /dev/tty.usb* in my terminal i get:

com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver
com.FTDI.ftdiusbserialdriverinstaller.preflight.pkg
com.FTDI.ftdiusbserialdriverinstaller.postflight.pkg
com.FTDI.ftdiusbserialdriverinstaller.FTDIUSBSerialDriver-2.pkg

after running pkgutil --files com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver i get

Library
Library/Extensions
Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext
Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents
Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist
Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents/MacOS
Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents/MacOS/FTDIUSBSerialDriver

Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents/_CodeSignature

The setup docs describe how to remove the OEM FTDI driver, since it doesn’t work on High Sierra.

https://monome.org/docs/setup/

after running the rm command i get
ls -l /dev/tty.usb*

ls: /dev/tty.usb*: No such file or directory

pkgutil --files com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver

No receipt for 'com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver' found at '/'.

Have you restarted the system after that?

yes i have. Im trying this with a macbook pro from 2013. Maybe ill have better luck :frowning:

@mattGreenberg we first need to see if Apple’s driver is working. open a terminal and type:

ls -l /dev/tty.usb*

do you see an entry come back?

gonna be by my home computer in 7 minutes. thank you!

my output is: /dev/tty.usb*: No such file or directory

is it listed in system profiler? it seems like your AppleFTDI driver isn’t working for some reason.
